Went to Giovannis yesterday and Honos today. They are both delicious but Honos takes the cake. No line to start comparing a 20 minute stand and wait at Giovannis. Larger portions and larger shrimp. Literally prawn size. 5 minute pickup from ordering. Flavor is more intense and the bright simple cabbage salad and dressing are delicious. 5 stars all the way.
Loved this place, the shrimp was delicious (bottom one in picture). The tables are cleaner here, you get free salad, and it’s two dollars cheaper than their popular neighbor shrimp truck!
Great service, amazing flavor, and the spicy garlic shrimp has a nice kick.
We had a spicy garlic shrimp and it was absolutely amazing! Shrimp was fresh and made super easy to peel the shells. Also it's spicy and flavorful!
Haleiwa is at the top of our list to visit every time we go to Waikiki. And also at the top is a visit to Giovanni's. While everyone was ordering the Garlic Shrimp, we wanted nothing to do with that. We came for the spice. And your mouth will burn with every bite. Crunchy shrimp and their secret ingredients (she would not share that with me. Only to say the spice came from another country). One of our favorite places on Oahu.
Fresh, quality ingredients and a unique experience. The food was delicious Andy the service was great. Highly recommend!
$2 parking at the trucks.
This was perhaps the most-hyped stop in all of Oahu for me, and it fell short. Garlic shrimp scampi seemed to be the popular dish. The spicy sweet garlic sauce/coating was tasty, but since the shrimp comes unpeeled, you lose half of it while peeling and discarding. Pro tip: the hot sauce that comes on the side is very flavourful and adds a lot. Other upsides: the parking lot area has numerous other food trucks and feels like a fun roadside stop, with music playing and chickens running around. If you do visit, note that it's cash only, seating is very limited, and there are no public bathrooms on site - nor anywhere within walking distance.
My niece, sister-in-law, and brother all said that we shouldn’t miss the Garlic Shrimp offered by Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck if we made it to the North Shore of Oahu during our recent vacation trip. Not were they spot on!! The 12 shell-on Garlic Shrimp were messy (don’t worry there is a sink & soap right next to the picnic table seating area), but oh so delicious! Plus, the sticky rice with garlic butter sauce on top complemented the shrimp. Our friend tried the spicy shrimp plate & said they was great as well! BTW, Giovanni’s is now located in Kahuku, about 16 miles East of Haleiwa.Highly recommended!!
On your way to the North Shore, turn right immediately after crossing the bridge on Kamehameha Highway in Haleiwa (if you get to McDonald’s, you’ve passed the one-way entrance and will need to turn around). Parking, which now costs $2 (cash only), is limited but turns over quickly. $15.00 gets you a full dozen large shrimp and 2 scoops of rice (swimming in garlic and butter if you order the scampi).
