I've been eating here since I can remember. Old hickory house has an indoor pit smoker that is grandfathered in under the health code. See it for yourself when you go there!! You literally cannot get this anywhere else. Take the meat for to go and keep it in your freezer and don't forget the stew. The breakfast pancakes are huge and the biscuits n gravy are perfection. Yum yum yum. Oh, fries are steak fries, but hey some people like those.
Very good food. I have driven past this place so many times, and yet we didn't try it until the whole social distancing thing started. It's very good barbecue. But with any BBQ place, the sides are just as important as the meat, and they don't disappoint there either. Fantastic stuff!
Bravo the epic Atlanta BBQ store once all over town now this is the last ! They saved the restaurant and it's building when area was bulldozed and condos/ apartments were built The Old Hickory House survived ! The definition of excellent bbq! Pork /beef Chopped or sliced ,heavenly Brunswick Stew, Garlic bread ribs to die for native Atlantan here Old Hickory house defined bbq for me as I grew up in Atlanta! Big Country breakfast The best !!! Try it you will like it!
From reading the other reviews I guess I just ordered on a bad day because the food I received was straight trash. I ordered the three meat plate and picked beef, ribs and pulled pork so they had 3 chances to get something right yet they failed miserably. ALL the meat was old dry and unseasoned. The meat was so bad I didnt even try the sides so they might have been ok but I was so pissed I threw all that sh** in the trash lol!
The same as it always was. It's been a few days since my last visit to this place... 25yrs or so to be exact. Well, today is the first day that restaurants are allowing dining-in, so my usual cohort and I figured what better way to support them!!? Upon arrival, you'll notice that the restaurant is getting squeezed by its new neighbors, which will be ultra-exciting APARTMENTS! Yes kids, more damned apartments. Just what this area needed. Ugh. The reason I bring this up, is that when the area around a landmark like Old Hickory House is gobbled up like this, then it seems like a foreshadowing of its impending doom. Support them as much, and as often as you can. Real estate diatribe out of the way, I stepped off my soapbox to go back in time re-entering this place. It's been a while, but it hasn't changed a bit in all of the years between visits. This is both a good thing and a good thing (sic). Consistency is what this place banks on, so never fear... it's the same place you either visited or wanted to visit many moons ago. The food looks simple, but it isn't. Just like brands of underwear, people tend to get up in arms over barbecue and what is good. This place is just plain-and-simple... good. There aren't any super complex flavors, or thirteen sauces to choose from. There is one sauce, and it's the same one that has had people hooked for decades. The Brunswick stew is the same amazing stew that they've been serving all these years, and the fries are quite possibly the same potatoes you had here since you were an embryo. The food is just good. I hope to come back soon enough. Just not to those damned apartment complexes.
Love, love the food from here. I have never been disappointed with this restaurant. I am 73 years old now, and I started eating Old Hickory House when I was like 19 years old. Love everything from here breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Best BBQ I've had in Georgia! I got the BBQ pork plate, mac and cheese, beans, and banana pudding and everything was delicious. The barbecue sauce is also amazing, great service, and good prices. Will definitely be back again!
Great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food is excellent. The BBQ is fantastic and my wife loves their Brunswick Stew. There are separate restrooms available. Handicap parking and accessibility available.
Finished our load and was headed out of town. Called this place off 285N to see if they were open.... yes we are they said! Woo hoo. It's pretty much hit and miss now a days. We asked to try the Brunswick stew. She brought us out two small samples..wow it was delish. It's not so good everywhere. We both love this one!! Ordering it next time! Omg I ordered the ribs with okra and a salad. Oh my... it was so delish.. I ate it all. Bf had the People pleaser plate. Wow it was the best that we had in a lonnnnng time. After all was said n done we ordered 10 smoked wings to go with cole slaw for later. We looked in r bag and they gave us some more nana pudding!! Wow nice folks for sure. I'm bookmarking this place for a later date!
Ribs were okay. Sides were better. Baked Beans were the best part. Mashed potatoes and gravy was good but they were out of rice and gravy. Brunswick soup was decent. Fried green tomatoes and sauce were good. Everything except the fried green tomatoes came out luke warm and the service up until the end was frustrating.
