I had the large BBQ sandwich on light bread (sandwich bread)It was served quickly and was as good as I remembered.Gin was the server and was friendly, efficient and helpful.
I was hungry, it was 7am and I was in Statesboro. Vandy's was open and fixed me some grub. I found comfort listening to the fellows talking about the day to come. A good start to a long drive.
This is the only barbecue place I have truly loved but new ownership/management means the quality has suffered. I had a small barbecue plate with a double order of Brunswick stew. The barbecue was shredded rather than chopped. Stringy and dry. The Brunswick stew was ok but tasted different. My loaf bread was cold, like it had been recently refrigerated, and seemed stale on the edges. Disappointing.
Great southern barbecue the way it's supposed to be. The Brunswick stew is excellent. Quick service. Pretty basic atmosphere, but we were there for the food and not disappointed.
I bought 2 quarts of stew total waste of money it came in 4 smaller containers all leaking stew every where soaked through my bag and as if that was not bad enough when i got home and opened them up the smell was so strong i could not stand it i decided to give it a try maybe it was just my nose off but no such luck it was burnt you could see the burnt parts all in the stew and the taste almost made me toss it back up i tossed every thing out after the first taste of that poor excuse of stew in the past they where great but these days i do not think they know how to cook or they simple did not care they where selling burnt stew ether way one star all the way ...eat there at your own risk i will never go back myself.
Menu needs to be updated, Priced wrong. I had stew and bbq sandwiches. Stew had burnt taste and I'm not a fan of the sandwich.
Everything ive tasted, seen, and heard about Vandy's (either locations) convinced me to finally just cross it off my list for good BBQ. There are way too many excellent BBQ places to go nowadays.
Vandy's BBQ is a Statesboro icon! I have had many a good meals here in the past.. I will say that here lately the BBQ and sometimes be hit or miss. Now for the stew.. when the stew is on its game.. it's the best in Georgia!
My Great-Grandma, Grandma, Mother, and myself and all of my South Georgia family and beyond have been patrons of Vandy's since they began. I have shared a table with many friends and family members for a variety of holidays, family reunions, or just a weekday lunch. Since moving away from the area in 2001, I have made a point to visit every chance I can. I have moved from South GA to Augusta to Florida all the way up to Western NC and traveled near and far around this country trying to find that Vandy's flavor again, but NOTHING compares to the original. Each time I make my BBQ pilgrimage to Statesboro, I take (at least) a couple pounds of BBQ and a gallon of Brunswick Stew (the best in the world) home, to not only feed my hunger but to feed my soul. My wish for this South Georgia Icon is to never go out of business, because to me; Vandy's BBQ is more than just a restaurant. The old screen door creaking open to the building on Vine holds special memories of family members since passed. The smells of the pit and sounds of chopping BBQ reminds me of conversations, laughter, and even tears shared over a cold cup of Sweet Tea and slices of Sunbeam bread. I believe this is a perfect example of what sets Southern cooking apart from any other region, because without the feelings of nostalgia attached to each delicious bite....it's just food.
Stew was very good. The BBQ not so much. Very pale in color and had a ton of fat. Did not have much flavor. Will not be eating here again. This is twice in a row I have left disappointed.
