We had a great night seated on the balcony overlooking River Street and the river. Our server Donesha was polite, funny and fast! She had great recommendations. The grill was broken but that didn't stop us from having a great meal. Our table ordered crab cakes, shrimp poor boy, shrimp and grits and buffalo chicken salad. The peach mimosa was also very nice.
I suspect that tourist traffic is what keeps Tubby's in business. Its location overlooking the riverfront offers a nice view and it's dog friendly. Food is average and pricey. My husband had a spinach salad with fried shrimp. The preferred grilled option wasn't possible since the grill was broken. I had the tortilla salad. Both were good, but the menu in general tilts toward fried and southern comfort food.
I loved the view or the river. I loved my waiter (handsome shaved head man with glasses), he was great and attentive. But the crab cake dinner was absolutely horrible. I’m a crab cake connoisseur, so I know good crab cakes. These were horrible. And I mean horrible. I paid for my meal because I’m not like that but it was bad y’all. Do not recommend the crab cakes at all. Never had crab cakes that even looked like this before. Down bad you hear me. He asked if I wanted a to go box and the answer was noooooo.
The 1st time we were here was several years ago & we enjoyed it. I returned over a year ago & quite a different experience, & not a good one. The 3rd time, was the same as the 2nd & there will be no 4th. The menu at the bottom of the steps led us to believe they had a meal for 2 to share. My son & I decided to do this with me getting the crab cake & he getting the fried oysters as our main dish. When we got the menu there was no crab cake for this entree. I asked the server & she said yes they have it. I guess it costs too much & they eliminated it off the actual menu in the restaurant & if someone asks for it, give it to them. She had an attitude problem because she said it was not to be shared. We told her we had eaten a big lunch down the street & we will still be sharing the meal. When the food finally came, there was no crab that I found in my crab cake, mostly stuffing. She said the salad was very small but I said that's ok. When the salad came, it was quite substantial, so much that neither of us sharing finished it. Also, the baked potato was a good size to be shared. She never came over to our table & completely ignored us. As a result we won't be returning. Reading some of the other reviews, they agree with me.
Steamed shrimp were excellent. Very good service. Good views. Grill wasn’t working so only steamed or fried options were available. Restrooms were very inconvenient.
We were recommended to this place by the concierge @Marriott river front in Savannah ( shame on you Marriott..)To sum it up… it’s an over glorified Long John’s silvers.Plastic cupsPlastic forksCondiments in plastic containersCardboard serving traysSchool cafeteria platesWretchedLow rent. Not what we meant when we asked for seafoodThe crab stew was sent back… too mealy (fillers)Oysters only come fried… surprise surpriseThe waitress has to wash and reuse my wine glass as the bartender wanted to use plastic cupsGreasyMarginal foodSticky tableI should post pics of the nasty bathroomMy husband warned me, but we had a long walk back to the hotel… I should have waited?I gable 2 stars only because we actually got what we ordered and the servers were pleasant. Not the place that Marriott should refer people to
The day that we went there the grill was broken, so we ordered fried food and it was very greasy (although somewhat to be expected). But by far the worst part of our experience was service from Alia (spelling?). She literally rolled her eyes at us twice, once because we asked for a baked potato instead of fries. I am not sure if she is always that awful or was just having an extremely bad day, but she was by far the worst customer service person that we encountered in our three days in Savannah. Tubby’s, you can and should do better!
Host never looked up from his phone to greet us. ? Hospitality fail. I have to write a hundred words, which is reminiscent of a middle school assignment.
Tubby's came highly recommended. Had the buffalo chicken salad. It left a nasty after taste. Basically it was gross. Service was good.
Too much-fried food, the fish choice is limited, our server Earnest was very courteous and friendly. Please don't call your restaurant a seafood place. The food was decent all served in a plastic container, and the value for the price is not right. Too expensive for what you provide. But incredibly still a very busy place with people waiting online forever. We will never go back.
