Not the best of choices. Walked in commented on Spanky's offering pizza and was informed by the host they made two and ran out of dough ...HMMM... ok asked the server if they had pizza and she said YES only to learn that the sole pizza person wasn't there so no pizza, now mind you it was 7:30 pm. Had additional question regarding another menu item only to learn they had 8 left . I know times are hard but dang it's 7:30 on a Saturday. I guess times are tough. This restaurant was packed by the time we left. Also, the signage was non existent. Even with a GPS we missed it only to pull into a dark parking lot to see what the building was and whala it was Spanky's. Service was OK. They kept bumping into my chair which became quite annoying, so as soon as I finished I stood up and pushed my chair in so they wouldn't bump into me any more. Food was MEH - chicken tenders and the chicken quesadilla were just OK. For sure we will not be back. Really wanted Pizza.
Waited over 2 hours to be seated, host would not divid party was told that the other waitresses did not want. Also host was talking about my father complaining about wait. He complaining to another customer. Asked for managers response was so nonchalant Problem 1. Not told how long wait 2. Would not separate party to seat 3. Host complaining to customer without telling customer the amount of time for wait 4. If restaurant could not accommodate they should have declined the party 5. Manager’s attitude Bar tender was nice and accommodating and waitress I don’t complain usually I understand the industry but this is by far one of the worst experiences ever Annette Eisenhauer
I always recommend Spankys to all my friends who head down towards savanah, they always have really good quality food and good customer service and the wait times are definitely worth it and the food is definitely worth the price and if you are on Tybee beach I recommend eating lunch or dinner at Spankys.
Tl;dr: Manager did not care that the host wouldn't communicate or seat guests due to utilizing his personal cellular device. The manager did not apologize and seemed inconvenienced by listening to the table. Upon walking in the host was not friendly in greeting me or my Mother who was walking with her cane. I asked about my party's location and the younger gentleman was too preoccupied with his cell phone to acknowledge my question. I took the liberty to check both dining rooms and found my party in order to help my Mother quickly take a seat as standing for an extended period of time is painful. When I spoke to him before walking away he just stared at me and did not respond- my Mother told him "Thank you, have a good day" as well and After a short gaze at her face he was buried into his phone. My Mother asked our server if that gentleman was employed for the restaurant as he refused to assist me and my disabled mother. The server was kind and was attentive, wonderful service from her and i did enjoy my food- Which is why I rated 2 stars. The server requested the manager (Who I believe is Bailey) to the table, however, he seemed incredibly disinterested in our treatment or diner experience. We were never given an apology, nor did the manager seem to see an issue with how we were treated. After flying 3,000 miles from the West Coast I was looking forward to the chicken fingers and spuds, but i will not be returning to this location due to horrendous management.
I have been a loyal customer at Spanky's since I first went there as a child back in the late 70’s. In college when I worked a J C Penny’s across the parking lot, me and the other college aged employees would go there every night after work and drink our days' pay check away till they closed. I have never had a complaint before but I have one now. The chicken finger is what they are famous for and with the honey-horseradish sauce can’t be beat and what I order 90% of the time. Three weeks ago, I got a finger to go order and was surprised when I got home to find no honey-horseradish or any sauce for the fingers. Day before yesterday I ate in and ordered the fingers and was told they were out of Honey-horseradish sauce; I was amazed as that is their signature sauce and the only place, I have ever had it. The waitress offered just plain honey for dipping my fingers in; which I approved. 20 minutes later when my food arrived, I was told they were out of honey as well, I should have walked out then. If I had known that I would have picked another restaurant or walked over to the Kroger's and bought my own honey and maybe horseradish so I could enjoy my fingers. Today, I called and spoke to the manager and he confirmed they were and had been out of the signature sauce because they could not get honey from their suppliers and it was too expensive to source it from other avenues. This might have been acceptable but the manager went on to say he did not have a bee hive to get the honey from, offered no apology, or any way to fix the now two dissipating meals I have been served without them reveling they were out of this special sauce. It will be a while till I go back again, but you will know me as I will be the one with his bottles of honey and horseradish mixing it together.
Terrible, Slow Service. But good food. We’ve been eating at Spanky’s Southside for 28 years. But the service has gone from good to terrible. Today was the worst ever. Rene, our server took 15 minutes to take our order. It took 45 minutes to get our food. She got our order wrong after all that time. She only came to our table to check on us and then only when we signaled her. I had to go and ask for our check. I tried to find a manager but none were there. I’m not sure what’s up but the owner might want to get involved.
Average at best Visited here for Saturday lunch We had the crab dip appetizer that was the highlight. The pizza we ordered was alright, heavy on the cheese light on the sauce and almost burnt on the bottom. We also had the blackened grouper which was not the best but portion was good, and the fettuccine Alfredo that was average. Waitstaff seemed stressed and overly busy, we only saw our waitress when she ran by. Positives- family/kid friendly, short wait, prices were good.
It was my husband and I first time eating at Spanky’s and the wings and fries were pretty good. However, the appetizer which was the spinach dip and chips was not hot and creamy, but slightly warm and dense. Also, we love some good southern style sweet tea and the drinks tasted like iced sugar water?...
I was looking forward to trying their chicken tenders. I was seated quickly. I waited for a server to take my drink order. I also asked for a menu. The server told me to scan a code on the table. I don't have a scanning app on my phone. She eventually brought me my unsweetened tea. No sweet and low(that i asked for). I sat there another 10-15 minutes. No menu, no sweetener. No server. I knew this wasn't going to go well. I cut my losses, and left. A waste of 15-25 min. Maybe because i was by myself. I hope they treat most customers better. I am out of here. Someone else will get my money. They let 20-30 dollars plus a 20-30 percent tip go out the door. I don't get it.
We sat at the bar to grab a quick bite during lunch as we were out that way. The food was delicious (chicken fingers, spuds and salad). Everything was served in a timely manner and the staff was attentive and friendly.
