Went to Paul Dean restaurant for chargrilled oysters. I get there and was told they were not in seasoned. I was disappointed after looking at the menu prior to going. The food wasn't the best. I was expecting more of a Southern flavor. The food was bland. Mac and Cheese wasn't good at all. I would suggest trying out other restaurants in downtown Savannah before trying Paula Dean.
My wife and I ate here on our a recent trip to Savannah. The staff is friendly, the food is OK, and packed with butter. Nothing too special. There are many other restaurants in Savannah I would recommend before this one
At approximately 7:00pm on Wednesday July 20, 2022 nine of my family members went for dinner after I told them about the great food from my previous visits. A 30-minute wait was no problem until other guests who came in after us were seated before us. When I asked the hostesses about it I was told that the servers were backed up. I asked why a party of 6 and 2 parties of 2, all of whom arrived after us, were seated and we were still waiting. As I was being told again that the servers were backed, up a woman named Brittany who worked there overhead and intervened. She practically begged us not to leave and asked me if I could get the rest of my party to return as about half had started walking towards their vehicles. We all returned, were promptly seated and Brittany even took our drink orders while waiting for our server, Micki, who was like a breath of fresh air after the negligent, seemingly intentional mistreatment by the hostesses. While we would all like to think that racism does not still exist, it is truly alive, well and thriving. The young white hostess who seemed to be calling the shots, the older white woman who came to assist with seating the other patrons, all of whom were white, and the other young hostess whose race I could not determine all seemed oblivious to the fact that this black family was being overlooked each time they assisted the others. If you choose to allow this type of behavior in your establishment, that is your right but it will also be our right to not patronize again and to encourage others not to as well. As we were leaving, the young white hostess snidely, smugly and condescendingly told us to have a good night. Her tone indicated a lack of sincerity. We allowed her to have the last word because that seemed to be what she wanted. We can’t control others; the only thing we can control is our reaction to ignorance and racism. We are ever so grateful to Brittany, Micki and our hat is off to the dynamic chef of the evening, to whom we were able to greet on our way out. Thanks for your kindness, compassion and exceptional service.
Ok, so I really wanted to give this place a higher rating because I love Paula Dean, but I couldn’t. We enjoyed the food and the service. Everyone was pleasant and the food came out promptly. The hush puppies were excellent. The ribeye was really good and the shrimp and grits nicely done and large portions. The waitress was very nice and friendly but the atmosphere was lacking. The restaurant was empty during the lunch time. The table was rocking and no one paid any attention to detail. That’s why I gave it only 3 stars because it’s just average.
We went early and the wait was only about 20 minutes. Not bad for a place with a famous person's name on the sign. I had the shrimp and grits and they were AWESOME! I also got the seafood hushpuppies and they were great too! My wife got the spicy shrimp and chicken pasta. She really liked the flavors but the pasta was overcooked. I tried some too and I agree. She thinks that it might have been because the dish came out to her super hot, which is good generally, but may have been why the pasta overcooked. She said the first bites weren't but the parts further down in the bowl were. We saw several people order the fried green tomatoes. They looked delicious.
My family and I had dinner at the Creek House last week and it was phenomenal. the food was amazing but the service was even better. Jeremy was the best server that we have ever had and we go out to eat a lot. He made us feel like family and he went above and beyond what was required of him. Paula also has the resturant decorated beautifully and everything was very clean. As long time fans we were not disappointed and we can't wait to go back during our next visit!
Had a nice meal. Started the meal with some yummy bread. I ordered the spicy shrimp and chicken pasta and my husband ordered the shrimp and grits with a side of seafood hushpuppuies. He loved his meal. Mine was tasty but the pasta was a little overcooked. We saw several people ordering the fried green tomatoes which looked really good too. I would definitely go back again.

Leave the calorie counter in the car! This was a pleasant surprise! My wife does not cook but she loves Paula Dean and in previous trips to Savannah we had not been to any of her restaurants. Today we corrected that! I normally try to avoid the tourist places because so often both the food and service suffer---they don't care about you because there will be two new customers there to replace you. I did not sense any of that attitude here. The service was polite and attentive without being over board. My wife and I shared a she crab soup, excellent. Then we both had the fried combination sea food---another home run. The sea food hush puppies have nothing more than shape common to any hush puppy I have had in the past. included were shrimp, scallops and fish----all done perfectly in a light breading. I had the mac and cheese----exactly what you would expect from Ms Dean. To close we shared the cheese cake----the guttural sounds could not be avoided. This is not fine dinning, this is honest Southern Cooking at the best!
i ate there today at lunchtime. The service was excellent. First a serving of fresh baked bread came out.. Then the best fish tacos ever. They were amazing. The view of the water capped it off....even a "to go cup" of sweet tea... Perfect meal, yall
