Incredible food, amazing service, and a comforting atmosphere. Love times 10.

I was there Thursday 7-14 we had a table of 6 and I never seen so many different dishes at one table. The food was hot and delicious and the people were all so nice and friendly. Would love to go back sometime.

Trust me, the wait is worth it! If only there wasn’t a wait time every time, I would definitely go back. It was interesting to know that everyone must make the line, even celebrities. If i go back to Savannah with someone who’s never been, I would make the line. The food is already set on the table as soon as you walk in and you’re welcomed to dig in. So, that compensates for the wait time you make. I went on a Friday and was in line for an hour and a half. Make sure to have cash on you, no cards are accepted. If needed, there is an ATM on site. Everyone was really friendly and it was nice to meet Mrs. Wilkes granddaughter. She came up to our table and introduced herself and was available if we needed anything. Our top picks were the fried chicken, fried okra, coleslaw, candied yams, mac and cheese, and the banana pudding at the end! The fried chicken was juicy, tender, and perfect crispy outside. It’s definitely one of the top fried chicken I’ve had. It was an interesting experience to sit family style with another family and interact with them.

We went on a Wednesday morning in May, was planning to get there at 10:30, walked by around 10 on our way to check out another square, and there were already 4-5 people waiting outside so we decided to get in line as well. We made conversation with those around us to pass the time. We planned to have a schedule free morning, so I wasn't stressed about the wait. If you love Southern cooking, the food was incredible. It was as if every dish was their specialty. I ended up getting fried chicken, mashed potatoes, black eyed peas, cream corn, green beans, Mac n cheese, sweet potatoes, rice and gravy, lima beans, some other kind of casserole, and a roll. And that was my first plate (lol). The staff was kind and the history interesting. Make note that they only take cash. But they do have an ATM on site as well as some cookbooks and a few other souvenirs.

Got in line at 1020 on a Monday. Met delightful people who had come from all over the country to eat. Got in to a table at 1140 and did not disappoint! Rutabagas like my grandmother cooked. Chicken was a bit dry but all The other sides made for an overwhelming experience! Mrs Wilkes granddaughter spoke to our table for a few minutes and was very interested in our satisfaction…nice touch! 10/10

Southern hospitality at it's best!! Delicious food!! Sit with total strangers and get to know one another while eating fried chicken, collard greens, fried Okra, and other delicious food. Dessert was yummy too. Peach cobbler or banana pudding was our choice, yum. Does not take card, cash only. Be prepared to stand on line 20-30 minutes, but it's worth the wait.

Best fried chicken I ever had. It’s a great experience. Peach cobbler was delicious too. It was worth the 1 hour wait. The place is always packed!

If you are new to traditional Southern home cooking, this restaurant is a great place to eat lunch (bring cash!). You even get a taste of rutabagas…. But unless you just want a walk down memory lane as a child of the South, there are so many other options in Savannah. (Where you don’t have to stand in line for 1-2 hours… hint, hint… Open Table)The vegetables are tasty, heavily cooked and well seasoned. The chicken was crispy but very dry & chewy… but hey… you don’t have to stand over a hot stove to get real fried chicken.

My new favorite place for authentic Southern cooking. The chicken was the star, but the 20 or so side dishes stole the show! Arrive early to avoid a long wait. We arrived at 10 and were seated with the folks waiting in line around us. Service is very efficient. Food is excellent. We knew it was cash only so we were sure not to spend all our cash on booze the night before. Definitely will stop again next time we're in Savannah.

We loved everything about this experience. The food was fabulous, there were 2-3 different meat options and I think I counted 16 (yes 16!!) veggie options. I thought the fried chicken was better than The Pink House (yes, I was there the day before Mrs Wilkes - I'm on a diet now) and my dining partner couldn't get enough of the beef stew. Everything was fresh, hot and plentiful - you will not go home hungry. We met some friendly folks in line which made the perfunctory 60 minute wait seem like 5 minutes. Grandson Ryon's doing a great job keeping up the traditions at Mrs Wilkes - I really felt like I was going back in time with the family style service, a table of ten strangers and all the memorabilia on the walls. Yes, it's worth the wait,
