Bartenders are extremely friendly, and have a very blue collar serious bartender work ethic. No frills, ready to give serious drinks, beers, Martinis and plastic cups, that sort of thing. The menu is extensive for bar food, see my photo of the QR code and hit it with Google lens and you'll see they've got everything from Philly cheesesteak to French dip sandwiches, chicken fingers, salads and everything else. I'm here at almost midnight and the kitchen is still rocking. Live band is playing the music is awesome people having a great time and this place seems to be an awesome neighborhood bar!
We had the best ,most tender, moist non greasy chicken strips I have ever had.the inside had a very cool old time neighborhood bar atmosphere, a lot of famous people have been there with there’s pictures on the wall
Nice irish bar that seems to have lot of regular clients. Serves food of course. Concerts.
The good part: place was clean and cozy. It was slightly dark, but i suppose it's just the way the lighting was. The server was very nice, and truly mastered serving customers. I would love to give this restaurant a 5 star rating, but i just couldn't. I ordered hamburger steak with mac and cheese. Never mind what the other 8 people ordered. The steak was cooked medium rare, just as I ordered. However, it was so dry. I tried a few more bites to make sure I'm not making a mistake of judging the food, but I was right, I'm sorry. The meat was dry and bland. It felt like I was chewing a cardboard. The Mac and cheese, well it started fine, until I noticed something else on the plate. At first I thought it was shard of glass, the I realized it was a hard plastic. It looked like a lip of a plastic container that's broken off. I didn't bother telling the server, because I thought she's already having hard times. I took a picture of it. Maybe someone could identify it for me.
Super busy on a Saturday night but they made sure you were well taken care of. We ordered chicken nachos and the irish egg rolls. Everything was absolutely amazing. The egg rolls were out of this world. Definitely something to try.
Stopped in for some Guinness the day before St. Patrick's Day. Crowded but that was to be expected. Enjoyed a cool one (or too). Went back later and got a pizza. Bought a t-shirt for my sister-in-law who is a McDonough. Good time.
Food was decent but watch out for that sneaky “credit card fee” whatever that is it added 20% to the tab for no reason even though I actually used debit. I think a place just blows it when they play tricks as silly as this in this day in age. There are a lot of good pubs around Savannah.
The word restaurant is a stretch. 4 tables and a bar on our side of the place.Sat at a table for half an hour waiting to catch the eye of the wait staff then had to go to the bar to get someone to take our order. The food was surprisingly good but couldn't believe when they handed me plastic silverware for my steak. Really?Stick with the title of pub/bar. I wouldn't have tried eating there with my teenagers. Also, loved having to use port-a-John's outside.
Mcdonough’s is a casual bar that also serves excellent bar food. I dropped in at the last minute sat at the bar and ordered the “hell of a good steak”. The bar got crowded pretty quickly but the bar tender was able to handle it with speed and care. So it may not fine dining but it was delicious. Ordered the steak medium and it was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned too. The salad and Mac n cheese were the 2 sides I chose but they offer many sides. The chicken tenders and burgers are also fantastic. Good solid spot for a casual meal.
Try the hot bread and cheese for the appetizer. It's sooo good. Our server was super sweet and funny... I wish I could remember what her name was. We had to wait 15 mins to be seated but it was pretty worth it. My chicken fingers were delish but the potato salad was pretty bland. Same with my boyfriend's meal... The french dip was so amazing but the fries were tasteless.I'd recommend this place though... Less expensive and crowded than anywhere else on river street.
