They have mastered the recipe ! The butter pecan, peanut butter chip, coffee chip, chocolate caramel bourbon were excellent! They were skimpy on the Jimmies , so much so they were all licked off before got to the register to pay! Serves ‘‘em right. Who takes a spoon to sprinkle them on ! Cmon stick that icecream in them and roll it around. How many years in business????
We thoroughly enjoyed our ice cream visit to Leopold's Ice Cream in Savannah. This is a must do when you visit Savannah. Don't let the line scare you away, it moves fairly quick and you have an opportunity to meet fellow ice cream lovers while you wait in the line. There is a menu posted with all the flavors before you enter. Lots of creative flavors as well as many traditional flavors. When you get up the scoopers you can get a taste if you want to try before committing your order. The scoopers are very friendly and hard working. A single scoop is $5.50 and a double scoop is $6.50. The $5.50 single scoop is much more than a single scoop and will be enough but if you are a lover of this delicious treat go for the gusto and get a double scoop. I did and loved every taste. I ordered the butter pecan, so good on a sugar cone. Waffle cones a $1.00 extra. Sugar and cake cones as well as cups are included with the price. While we were waiting in line we were impressed that a staff member (Andy) was serving small glasses of ice cold water to those waiting in line. This is a Savannah institution and a must visit when you come to Savannah.
A Savannah tradition which we loved. Loved that they offered two vegan flavors on an extensive ice cream menu. The mint chocolate was excellent to the point it was hard to believe it was vegan. Can be crowded and the line can be long but the staff keep it moving at a fairly good clip and provide a fairly large serving. There is a small amount of seating inside but we always took choices along on an after dinner walk.
The line is long so be prepared. The evenings are worse. We went right after lunch on a rainy day and still waited 35 minutes. Do not be in a hurry when you go. The staff is friendly. The ice cream was delicious as definitely worth the wait. My sister got the coconut ice cream with hot fudge. It tasted like a Mounds candy bar. I got mint chocolate chip with hot fudge. Great ice cream!
Absolutely loved Leopold’s. Nice selection of different flavors that you don’t normally see at an ice shop. The line was long, but it moved quickly. We tried the Lemon Custard, Caramel Swirl, Mint Chocolate Chip and Japanese Cherry Blossom. Our favorites were the Lemon Custard and Japanese Cherry Blossom. Make sure that you look at all selections before ordering as we did not see the Japanese Cherry Blossom until after ordering our selections and had to add that on. Other special flavors they had during time we were there was Lavender and Rose Petal. All the flavors were not on their website, so just make sure you check. The ice cream is worth the wait in line!
I had the chewy cookie vanilla and it was superb! Line moved much faster than you might think. Wife had banana ice cream. I didn’t like hers as well; the flavor was too mild and needed a “punch-up.”
Walked here after pizza for dinner. Really good peanut butter ice cream and enjoyed the nostalgia of a long term family run business
What else is there to say? It is popular for a reason.Went up and had a pleasantly short line before ordering absolutely delicious ice cream. I recommend ordering a double scoop size but ordering two flavors! Best way to try many of their masterful flavors.
So we had to eat here after hearing about the 100 year old ice cream shop with the 30 minute wait in line. All three of us enjoyed our ice cream (Savannah Socialite), but we all agreed that we've had better ice cream elsewhere.
When in Rome… (I guess)… we were told this is a Savannah landmark eatery so we braved the crowds, stood in line and ate ice cream… We can now check Leopold’s off our list… being an ice cream junkie, I have to say that mine (Savannah socialite) was good but so is Mayfield or Bluebell from Publix. If you want the “experience” go for it, otherwise, swing through the local grocery store and hope you have a refrigerator/freezer in your room/apartment/ condo….
