I enjoy fried chicken in a variety of ways. Geneva's version is one of them. The meal was delicious. The cornbread and collard greens had a head on collision that may be described as delicious.
This is real southern home style cooking without all of the salt. Chicken was fried to perfection. The house made macaroni and cheese was pretty good, not overly cheesy or buttery-just right. The string beans have a little fire to them & are tasty. The cornbread mini loaf is served in a variety of flavors & was a nice balance of sweet & cornmeal; definitely NOT jiffy for those that think of jiffy as REAL cornbread?. You can easily tell that the cook prepares each dish freshly & adds lots of love to the pot! She genuinely enjoys feeding you good quality food, despite being tired & in pain. Because of this as well as the fact that there’s only 1 cook, your wait to receive your food is longer than most. However, your food will be delivered hot & is well worth the wait. We will definitely recommend this place & will eat here the next time that we come to Savannah.
This place was ok. I was directed to it by the hotel manager where I stayed. This is a very small place and seating is limited. I ordered a two piece combo and told the guy I was eating inside. I guess he mistakenly thought I said that I wanted my food to go. He told me I had to wait outside for my food. I corrected him. Then I tried to sit at a table and the server moved me to a smaller one. I understand space is limited but this was frustrating. My food arrived very hot. Chicken had a light breading on it. I ordered a breast and wing. The breast was good sized but the chicken wing was the smallest I have ever seen, baby chickenish..Mac and cheese was ok and needed salt added. My tea tasted like “sweet water” and not very brewed. Corn bread was tasty. The biggest take away is the seating. When most families go to this type of southern style restaurant, people want to be able to sit and eat on their own time. They don’t want to feel rushed. They even have signs letting patrons know that seating is limited to 1 hr. Hopefully they eventually will move to a more family friendly location. Space makes a difference. Nobody wants to feel pressure like that trying to enjoy a meal.
I was just browsing options in the area, saw the reviews, and decided to give the restaurant a try. I was not disappointed, in fact, this is a hidden gem. The cornbread and chicken should be famous. The staff were all friendly. The food came out hot and delicious, in a reasonable amount of time. There was not a single thing our family ate we were disappointed in - chicken tenders, the divine chicken, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet yams, and potato logs,. It is absolutely worth the drive out of downtown Savannah to eat. Cornbread comes in different options like blueberry, pecan, broccoli, jalapeño, and more. There are different spreads to accompany the cornbread like pecan and and they come out in tiny loaves. Everything was seasoned well and didn't need sauce, but they offer several of the normal dipping sauces like ranch and honey mustard. You can order to go up front or dine in and be waited on at the restaurant, but seating is limited for large parties. I wouldn't go to dine in with more than 5. Any larger parties just order to go and take it somewhere, but don't let that stop you from eating here.
Overall - This is a repeat, I'll be back. We arrived 15 minutes after opening and the place was already half packed. Food - The fried chicken and cornbread lived up to the name, they were phenomenal! The Mac n cheese was great and sweet potato pie was quality. Service - our server was very nice and prompt, food delivery was a little slow due to the size of the kitchen but well worth it. Location/ambiance - small place with a large bench and tables, this is where out of towners can get the best fried chicken.
Excellent fried chicken, some of the best I have ever had. Located in a non-descript shopping center far outside the district, it doesn’t look like much but the chicken is great. Saw lots of locals going in and out. The side items are not in the same league as the chicken, and the cornbread “loafs” are a bit of a misnomer - about the size of a muffin or large slice of cornbread. Definitely recommend the bird!
OMG! CHILE! COME HERE! The chicken is amazing. Tender, cooked just right. The Broccoli Apple slaw is absolutely stunning. Corn bread that is tender and moist. The pork chop special was just that, special, and 'the mistake cake', was no mistake at all. We might just be back again tomorrow. Special thanks to our wonderful server, Walker. She's great!And...We went back again the next day. ❤️ Had another great experience. Food, conversations, Service. Our server Crystal was fantastic.
Please do yourself a favor and don't sleep on this place. We had a bit of a wait on a Sunday, but let me tell ya. I'd have waited three hours for this meal. One of the best I've ever had in my life. The staff is super friendly, it's almost like you're at family supper at grandma's house. Now the food. Get all of it. Everything. The oxtail is buttery, melt in your mouth goodness that you just won't stop eating. The cornbread and yams were fantastic. My wife tried my chicken gumbo and I barely got it back from her! Now the chicken, oh the chicken. It comes out so hot you definitely gonna try eating it too quick because it looks like the Lord served it himself. Lightly battered but oh so crispy. Cooked to perfection! I'd drive from Florida back to Savannah just for this chicken. Thank you Geneva's for filling our bellies with such a wonderful meal, y'all are fantastic!! ❤️
Hard not to love this family run restaurant.Located in a strip mall along side staples and home Depot you would never know what lies behind the front door until you open it.A neatly designed 10 table restaurant with formal seating and a quick to grab take out at the front. The clear and concise menu made it easy to order along with the lip smacking laughing patrons that were already seated showing off what they ordered.I had a 3 piece Fried chicken meal with a side of string beens and Mac & cheese. The chicken was well seasoned and tender. The greens were soft but not soggy and come to find out, nothing in the restaurant is made with pork! The cornbread is supermarket batter worthy and the sweet tea is diabetes ready but don't be fooled "refreshing".Hope Ms Geneva finishes out her cook book soon and thinks about future franchises or recipe packaging. Keep up the great work, I took a to go plate for the friends back at the hotel!
Great food, great service ????
