Always a great place to eat. I have been eating at Carey Hilliards since 1999 from Charleston SC now throughout the Savannah Ga area. The food has always been plentiful. I always get the Captains platter bcuz I am a seafood lover and yesterday I got the grilled salmon with 2 sides. Only if Carey Hilliards can come to Atlanta:):(. Per usual the food was amazing, shot out to the cook.
I was expecting a call from upper management today, 6/29, yet it never came. So it’s time to tell about my dissatisfaction. I took my son and granddaughter to dinner at the Abercorn restaurant. Not one smile from anyone employee did I see the entire visit. The food was cold, not even lukewarm. We were sitting close enough to see the service window and hear the expeditor call server’s names. He placed food on the counter and a name I never heard. I wondered if that was ours since there was a plate of onion rings with this order. Our waitress brought us the onion rings which were sitting in front of the other dinners. I thought maybe the rings were a separate order from the dinners. They rings were lukewarm. About 3 minutes later, she brought us our plates. These were the same plates which had been sitting for several minutes. Our dinners had zero temperature. Our waitress took our plates back to the counter. She came back and assured us it would not be too long. I asked if they were reheating or recooking. She said they would recook. 5-6 minutes later she brought our “recooked” meals. This food was merely lukewarm. I took my plate to the counter and told the expeditor our recooks were barely warm. He immediately went into the kitchen. I never saw him again. Our waitress apologized yet no manager came to us with an apology. I’ve worked in several restaurants, and when there is an unhappy customer a manager ALWAYS goes to the customer and apologizes and tries to make the customer happy. My granddaughter was fine with her meal and she ate. I told our waitress to bring me the check for the onion rings, my granddaughter’s food and our drinks. Still no manager ever came. We paid and we left. Funny how there were several waitresses gathered at the waitress station while our food sat on the counter getting cold. Cold food, plenty of empty hands to run food, not one single smile (not even from the host), no manager’s apology and no I won’t be back. I’ve been dinning at Carey’s for over 40 years and have never been so disappointed.
Really enjoyed my food. Great customer service and the environment was pleasant..
I called in my order at 6:45 and was told 10-15 minutes. I arrived at 7:00. After asking the car hop 2 times where is my food? A simple order of chicken!!! My family has been patronizing your restaurant since the 60s. I can assure you that we will NEVER return. We will use Barnes in the future!!!!
The service was good but, our food was not hot but, cool. I'm not particular about my food being piping hot, but for the first time, I had to send back some of my food. The Brunswick stew and green beans were cool and my husband's fried items were barely warm. Despite the everything being barely warm, the baked potato was previously overcooked. It was after 7pm. I won't be eating there again.
As a Savannah native I have been eating from this restaurant for years the food is always pretty good, but for some reason they never stay consistent with the mac and cheese some nights is bake ? some nights you can tell it comes straight out of a can?... sometimes the service is lacking due to new employees trying to fit in ?, and the website could use just a little tweaking between fried and grilled selections of seafood, but overall I really don't have any complaints as a person that dines in with the family pretty often. Pretty good and straight to the point menu to pick your selections from just ask an old highschool classmate, and former NFL ? star T. Bryant who I see often with his family dining in this restaurant.
I ordered carry out while visiting GA and this was the worst food I've tasted. From the fried catfish, fried pickles, chicken tenders, and the steak with grilled onions. All of the food that we ordered was horrible and poorly seasoned. A complete waste of money. To make the experience worse I did not add a tip because I ordered carry out and the waitress who handed me the food said "I see you didn't add a tip to your online order, would you like to leave one?" I certainly do not recommend this place to anyone expecting good food while visiting Savannah.
I had dinner here last night after my daughter's gymnastics meet. It was over pretty late, and one of the employees at the civic center recommended it since they stay open late.Husband had a steak and enjoyed it; I had the shrimp, and it was ok - the shrimp were tiny --- there were a bunch, but they were smaller than I expected (bigger than popcorn shrimp but small). My daughter had a chicken sandwich, and she liked it. Oh I also had a cup of Brunswick stew and liked it very much. They were understaffed, but the manager and server were both friendly and did their best to make our experience a good one.
Usually I don't have issues with my orders but today was not good. My husband had the captain's platter and he said it was not good. For $23.99 the seafood should be great. My food was ok. This won't deter me from ordering again because everyone has an off day just wanted to share my experience for today.
The food was really good. The waitress was really kind and helpful as well. The check out lady….well she could use a small lesson on southern hospitality and tone. But other than the checkout lady, I’d come back and I’d give a 5 star on the food.
