I’m surprised this restaurant has so many good reviews because the food is very average. I got the green (ginger) salad ($4.5), Hawaiian ahi poke ($14) and Bangkok paradise ($18) as a pickup order, which was way overpriced for taste.The green salad barely contained any carrots or red cabbage and mostly consisted of overly ripened romaine lettuce. The salad dressing was very watery and lacked flavor as well. The Hawaiian ahi poke was the best tasting item out of my order. It was indeed fresh and would’ve tasted excellent with a little more salt. My least favorite item, out of those I ordered, was the Bangkok paradise hand roll.The Bangkok paradise roll is described as spicy tuna mixed with basil leaves and cucumber, however it tastes like pickled cucumbers in mayonnaise. It was difficult to taste any spicy tuna. Overall, the flavors of the roll did not balance well, which made it difficult to eat. The roll would’ve have tasted excellent had it consisted of tuna and cucumbers tossed in chili sauce, sea salt, basil leaves with a hint of mayo and lemon juice to lessen the heat of the chili flakes.The food seemed fresher but just lacking in flavor. And the cost was way too high for the proportions and taste. I felt like my order could’ve come from a mediocre grocery store at best. Maybe other items on the menu are more representative if the restaurant but I will not be ordering again in the future to find out. I don’t recommend this to patrons wanting an authentic sushi experience.
Sushi is so good. Kinda expensive, but where else are you gonna get good sushi around here?
Edit to my review from 10 minutes ago: I received harassing voicemails from the restaurant to not order from them again - I called back to let them know exactly what I wrote down below. Their response "do not order with us again" (in a rude demeaning tone) is the young kid joking?? LOL wasn't planning to - WORK ON YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE. You are not the only sushi place in town and by far NOT the best. Good luck. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What has happened to this place? After 7 attempts, finally someone answered the phone (4 of those times it was disconnected). I placed my to go order and was told it would be an hour. I showed up after 45 mins to find the place half empty. 3 employees looked right at me, including 2 of them standing right next to me. I had my card in hand waiting for someone to say hello and take my card for about 20 minutes. The place is about 400 sq feet and the staff looked at me and just kept going away. Nobody ever greeted me even though I stood waiting right by the register. After 3.5 hours I get a call that my order hasn't been picked up and wondering if I'm still coming?! What do you think?
Awesome local sushi joint! Highly recommend.
We have been regular customers of Sakura for sometime and while their sushi is good their service and attitude is a disaster. After a long break due to the pandemic we decided to return for dinner. The restaurant was nearly empty and our orders were taken. My wife ordered the Chicken Teryaki and I ordered my usual sushi roll. We relaxed and waited. My Sushi roll finally arrived but not my wife’s chicken. We waited and waited still nothing. Eventually I got the attention of another waiter who was tied up helping to unload a food delivery truck. He came back to tell me it the chicken as on its way. Another long long wait and finally the chicken finally arrived. My wife took her first bite and said “it’s cold” I finally managed to get the attention of the waiter and explained the situation. I asked him to take it back and warm it up. He apologized and said he would take it off the bill. Another long long wait eventually I called the waiter and he brought out the chicken. By this time I was fed up , told him to pack it up and bring me the bill. When the bill arrived I was surprised to see a $15 charge for the chicken. The waiter explained to me that they had not reheated the chicken as I had requested but but made a whole new portion which I had not requested. I paid the bill and we left. When we got home my wife started to eat her chicken looked at me and said “This is not a new portion of chicken. This is the same piece of chicken. It’s tough, tasteless , dried out and unedible and also the vegetables were the same and mushy so it got tossed into the garbage. The original waitress who took our order was on the phone all this time with take out orders all of which were ready before our order and the other waiter was busy helping unload a delivery truck so there was no service in the restaurant at all and only three tables occupied , one where the occupants finally after a long wait finally managed to get the waitress and demand their check. The whole waitstaff was like a fire drill there were only two on the floor and one was on the phone the whole time we were there and the other one was outside unloading the truck. Now I realize why the restaurant was empty .a very frustrating expensive evening . This will be our final visit to the Sakura as there are many other Sushi Restaurants in our area. This incident is such a pity because thevsushi is really good.
Underwhelming quality of sushi for the price charged. Not worth it. Same price can get much better tasting sushi from say Bishoku.
I’ve been to Sakura many times but the last 2 times I have been disappointed. I’m not disappointed in the food but the service. Both times I ordered and then watched everyone around me get their food. Even people that came in 20 minutes after me. I’m not sure what is going on but that isn’t acceptable. Once I speak to the server the food comes out. The food is good but not that good.
Ordered shrimp hibachi and steak and shrimp hibachi both with rice(yummy! Only rice&fried eggs. You may have to add other ingredients at the time of your order??). Also had the deep-fried California roll. To in which I was not impressed.. It was the tempura mix that I didn't like to be exact. Other than that everything was ?
I love this place! They serve sensational meals, their menu is decent, The cook in that place is very trained, I enjoy a lot trying all their dishes. The food is consistently tasty, the service towards the guests is helpful. I frequently visit this restaurant and I not even once was unsatisfied. I recommend it to all.
