This was my first time in a Steak N Shake that didn't have servers taking orders. I thought, this is probably how you save the restaurant as it has been slipping in recent years. Wow. Talk about SLOW service! I get it was lunch time, but the average wait time was 30+ minutes for a simple order (not just me, but other people waiting confirmed this wait time for them also). The air conditioning was barely spitting out any cool air on a 100+ degree day. The staff didn't seem all that thrilled to be working and they seemed severely understaffed. The stove didn't look like it had received a proper cleaning in a long time. Had I not paid when writing this I would have skipped. 4 orders past me got their milkshake before me and 8 orders ahead of me were still waiting for their milkshakes. It was made to go (ordered for dine in) and was told "that's only how I'm making them", a.k.a. too bad. Cheese on burger was burned from sitting in the grill forever. People wonder why Steak N Shake is going under. Well here's why.
Horrible. We arrived, ordered, and waited 45 minutes to get our food. It seemed like they were short staffed, and every employee was stressed out to their max. "Leading" them was a guy at the grill who would yell at another female employee continuously to where she was (drive through). She looked fed up and tired of his belittling attitude. Another employee walked around the store with a quick pace, doing what though? I saw him locking the front door to block customers from coming in, and occasionally cleaning here and there. But it didn't look like he was actually DOING anything. I only saw one other employee working the fry station and bringing food out. There was NO customer service. At one point another guest tried asking a question and the female employee barked at him that she was busy. Another time, a guest complained that she had been waiting over an hour for her food. This brought on a folly of yelling from the guy at the grill to someone in the back.Back to the door locking... While the dining room was "open" the guy at the grill, who I can only assume was the manager, ordered the doors locked so no one else could come in. Pretty sure that's a violation of the fire code.Glad I didn't tip while using a self-serve kiosk (what a joke that is, in and of itself is). Not sure I would ever return to this location. No customer service, hostile work environment, long wait times, fire code violations, and all that for food that was just ok. At least my son enjoyed his milkshake, which was the whole reason we went there at all.
I don't understand how a burger can be this smashed in a bag that was already missing both the large fries and only had 2 burgers inside with some cheese cups. Like did they just walk on top of our order? Also tried to order pickup to offset it being a Friday night to not hog the drive thru and to just pop in and out to pick up the order. Except we get to the store all the doors are locked and no one allowed us inside at 930 even tho they close at midnight. So we call and they say to go in the drive thru line to pick up the order. We had to sit there for 45mins before we got our order. Then they put the order in a sealed bag so I couldn't even quickly check if it was correct without making the extremely long drive thru line wait even more. So we get home and not only is our food soggy, cold and literally thrown together but smashed down like someone sat on our food or stomped on it. And missing 2 large fries to go with the cheese cups.I literally paid $30 worth of straight garbage.
This is the WORST steak and shake I’ve ever had! I mean, I do understand we’re still in middle of the pandemic and everyone is short staffed, I GET IT! I waited patiently for my food to finally get it and my burger was microwaved. I could tell by the hard bun and the cheese had been burnt off. My fries was fresh so thanks for that. I was so humble that I didn’t bother to complain BUT I’ll never return even if it was for free.
This location used to be good. Now everything is too salty. It’s pretty bad when you bite into a burger and all you taste is salt. I hate that they went to paper straws. Not sure how they think they are “saving the planet “ when they use styrofoam cups for drinks and chicken fingers. They never put napkins in the bag and the new things they use to hold the fries are horrible! Fries fall out all into the bottom of the bag! We won’t be going back here. Freddie’s has you guys beat!
This place used to be awesome. Now it’s a lost cause. First off. Employees were friendly enough but just unable to do the job. We came in and ordered 2 burgers, fries and shakes. We waited patiently for 30mins and then asked where our food was. They said “We don’t see your order”. She took our ticket and began making our order. She was awesome. She got our food out in less than 5 minutes. That being said I blame the owner. This is a situation where the owner can see all of the 1 star rating and is not fixing the problem. It’s a shame.
I wish you had zero stars. Unfortunately the single burger was burnt black and cold. I thought I was in the drive through for 15 minutes waiting patiently because I thought my food was going to be freshly cooked. I have never had this happen at North Carolina's Steak & Shake.Maybe they were short on staff among other things. I wish them the best!!
Fabulous experience. Went through the drive thru and got a large order of onion rings instead of fries with my combo (because they are delicious). When I got my food I went and parked to eat it.Upon opening the bag I found that the order had gotten mixed up and I got fries instead of my onion rings. Things happen, they were very busy. I wasn't going to go back and fuss. I like fries too. But a few minutes into eating my meal there was a knock on my car window. They had realized the mistake and tracked me down to give me my onion rings! Heck yeah! 10 out of 10 will definitely eat here again.
We ordered ahead a curb-side pickup on the app. The app directed to call inside when we arrived so we did just instructed. When I called I was told “yeah, just come in and get it” even though not going in the lobby was the reason we selected curbside and not pickup.Upon going inside, we are give all the hot potion of our meal except chicken nuggets. We’re told to wait a moment for those and our shakes. TWENTY MINUTES LATER we were finally given nuggets when the gentleman making shakes realized we were still waiting for something and made sure we got both them and all the shakes we were waiting on. The rest of the time was spent trying to catch the eye of any front of house staff who have made dodging eye contact an art form.
Wait at the drive thru was almost 30 minutes. The grilled cheese was thin and over-salted, and cost close to $5 with tax - not worth the money. The milkshakes have changed. I got the chocolate milkshake which used to be richer, but now tastes almost like plain vanilla and also priced normally at $3.50 (they have half-off drinks on weekdays between 2pm - 4 or 5pm). Overpriced for low quality junk. I spent almost $10 on nothing. Wouldn't recommend
