Stumbled across this cafe and it’s the cutest ever!! Had the white choco mocha and a ham&cheese sandwich while I studied. Loved the jazz music and the aesthetic! Super cozy. The man that took my order (I’m assuming he’s the owner) was extremely sweet and friendly!! He had the biggest smile the whole time I was there and made sure everyone in the cafe was taken care of. Will definitely be back!
I happened upon Rothem thinking it was a bookstore that had a coffee shop in it. I’m so glad I was wrong, it turned out to be more than that. This is a little gem hidden inside an ordinary shopping plaza in Duluth.Cafe Rothem has a distinctive way of brewing their coffee through a Siphon. Highlighted on their wall. Each siphon is actually used at a table enough for four patrons. I’ve heard of pour over, French, but a siphon?Love the personal touch and care of this brewing method.I ordered a nitro brew and while I knew ordering a South American coffee would be most likely a Colombian this particular brand Panama is interestingly not like any Colombian I’ve tried and not bitter nor overly fruity. As a slightly fruity but very smooth coffee I now can attest the fruitier coffee is best as a Nitro brew. I’ve never appreciated a washed or fruity South America mn or African coffee has a hot brew. Love this smoothness and still medium bodied coffee as a Nitro. The house made ‘blooming pumpkin bread’ was not overwhelming nor underwhelming. Just enough pumpkin taste and not over powered by the cream cheese. My fear was the cream cheese filling would overpower the pumpkin taste. The hand made waffle like pastry which I’ve never tried was cute and sweet as expected definitely could taste a bit of the brown sugar. It’s also great that Cafe Rothem uses sustainable sourced coffee and is a part of the local community as it featured local artists in monthly music performances. Love the serene warm atmosphere.
Favorite cafe in Duluth! Super sweet owners, great ambience, and amazing drinks! I ordered the Affogato
Such a sweet and lovely little coffee shop. Live music, books, records, and great coffee. They also offer small bites and bakery deserts that are cheap and super yummy. The coffee was really good. I got the burnt sugar latte I believe and it was sweet but really good. The owner of the store us who helped us decide from the menu which was really nice. The seating reminds me of older Chinese restaurant seating. It's definitely a must go.
What a lovely coffee shop and book store. I had an iced white mocha and sat at one of the round tables amongst the towering bookshelves filled with all sorts of books. Its such a lovely and cute place and the man who greeted us was so nice. You can tell they make everything with love and are just so happy to have you in their cafe. Definently visit just to relax, read a book, or work. Loved it, such a cute little gem!
This cafe is surrounded by shelves of books and antiques, is dimly lit, and has calming jazz music playing, creating a very warm atmosphere (for studying and just catching up with friends). The owners are incredibly kind and attentive, going around to make sure everybody was enjoying their time and was comfortable. If I lived closer I would come here every time I needed to study!
Loved d music , coffee and the ambience. Best coffee shop i have been to.
If you're looking for a study spot or a cozy date, it's great. However. If you like a properly prepared cappuccino or other crafted coffee you're out of luck. They're partnered with Phoenix Roasters, which made me think it would be good, but they BURNED that coffee. My cappuccino wasn't cool enough to drink for 25 minutes. It was burned and bitter and the foam was gone within 10 minutes. They seem to have a great menu overall but if you advertise COFFEE. MUSIC. BOOKS. I would really hope you'd take some time to truly learn the art. I'll go there to study, but I'd stay away from the coffee for sure.
Cafe Rothem is the perfect after lunch coffee getaway. Great atmosphere and even better staff! Awesome selections on the menu, and the perfect place for that perfect social media pic.
How come a coffee shop, on a Sat. doesn't open till 10:00?
