Pleasantly surprised by this little restaurant off of Buford Hwy and they were right - small, but with a big taste. Walked in around 5:15 pm on a Sunday. Quickly got a table for five. Ordered 4 roti canai, papaya shrimp, beef chow ho fun, curry beef brisket, salt & pepper squid, and black pepper seafood combo. After ordering, started to get our food within minutes. First came the roti canai which was pretty flavorful. Then the papaya shrimp, but only two medium size shrimp at best. Curry beef was very chewwwwy. Salt & pepper squid was maybe my fav dish. Lastly, the black pepper seafood combo which was more fish and less scallops and just two medium size shrimp. 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill... maybe it was because there were five of us... don't remember seeing anything about that anywhere, but no big deal since it still was under $115!
Crowded when we arrived on Sunday, lunch time.Ordered:beef flat noodle, excellentSalty fish and chicken fried rice, excellentRoti canai, very goodChicken Nasi lemak, good, only not enough variety. The food came surprisingly fast, despite their are very busy. Servers are nice and very helpful, even thou we asking for many things :) sambal, chili, box, more water, chopstick.Very good experience over all
I've made several long trips to Malaysia and only indulged in Malay/Asian food when I am there. I've bought off the spice rack of Jaya Grocers there just to attempt a recreation of rendang back home. I'd probably be ordering from Mamak every week if I lived closer. From the roti canai, to nasi lemak - everything spoke authentic Malaysian cuisine. I have had Kari Ayam in Kuala Lumpur, but this was the first time I had a Kari Beef spareribs. The Chow Kway Tweo had the same slightly tinged taste that makes it famous in South Asia. The sambal condiment didn't come with our entrees, but they happily gave us some when I asked for it. My friends who are local said they liked the rendant better at another eatery, so we didn't order it here, but next time I will try it. My friends had also tried the Hokkien Mee noodles at an earlier time and did not like it. To be fair, when I tried those noodles in Malaysia, I didn't care for it either. So perhaps it is an acquired taste. The other dish we had at Mamak was Black Pepper Seafood Combo. Now I've not tried this in Malaysia, don't think I came across it either. But it was spectacular at Mamak. They didn't have dessert on the menu when we went there. Not sure if that's a permanent feature. The only criticism I had is that the food came out at all odd time intervals. We placed the order for everything at the same time. 2 appetizers came out first, then 3 entrees, We had almost finished the entrees when the last one came out. It's a small mom and pop place and each dish was piping hot and fresh, so no complaints. We were starving when we arrived and ate up in no time. It was only at the end I realized I had no pics. Some pics of the menu are here instead.
Absolutely delicious. The Roti, the Rendang Beef, and Mamak chicken are all amazing!! The rice is so light and fluffy! The older guy at the reception area was so very nice. I can’t wait to go back!
I cannot wait to come back!! Get the roti appetizer, it's the BEST curry I've ever had.Fantastic service, wonderful atmosphere, and AMAZING food.
We stopped into the cute place- great environment and great service. The food was absolutely delicious and extremely flavorful. The best tofu i’ve ever had! Highly recommend.
Ordered Mamak mee goreng and beef satay !!! Mamak mee goreng is not Mamak mee goreng. It tasted like any other Chinese lo mean. Very disappointing!!! No charred taste, no fried potatoes, no squid. The satay was wrong! They ran out of beef without telling me. The chicken satay is fried not grilled. So don’t called it satay!!!! Freaking fried chicken on a stick. Food Terminal is better.
My family truly enjoyed our discovery of Mamak, a restaurant featuring a wide range of Malaysian street food. Though rather limited in seating capacity, Mamak delighted us with it's expeditious table service and inexpensive menu items. My favorite entree was the Hainanese Chicken, paired with the Sambal Okra. I highly recommend Mamak as a worthy stop while exploring the extraordinary diversity of Asian cuisine along Buford Highway.
This might be ugly delicious but one of the best restaurants in ATL is a Malaysian restaurant called @mamakatl on @welovebuhi.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀This restaurant is small and during much of covid was just a takeout spot which was a pity because this might legitimately be a top 10 ATL restaurant when fresh. Thankfully mamak is back at full force.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Let's talk about my fav dish at mamak the Kari Fish:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀1. The fish: the fish is lightly fried, very crispy fish fillet which by itself is awesome. Interestingly the original dish used fish heads not fillet ?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀2. The Kari: this curry is good, not even sure how to describe it, it's mostly savory and a little sweet, the crispy fish drenched in this stuff is awesome. Normally it's a little thick and is just an awesome pairing with sticky rice⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀3. The veggies: the main veggies in this curry are eggplant, tofu and green beans, all of which are excellent in the curry (let's be honest everyone likes them but I usually eat around any veggie ?)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Be sure to check out mamak, it is one of the best restaurants in ATL and now that it's open again everyone should visit!
Great Malaysian food & excellent service.Highlight dishes: green beans, sambal okra, and bone in Kari chickenMake sure to ask for a side of their chili sauce if you like it spicy.
