We came as a softball team, 30 of us. Friendly service, excellent food. We hadn’t even all finished ordering and some of our team Was already getting their food. All Of us had eaten under 45 minutes which is quite impressive for a big group.
Excellent food, will definitely return! The service was friendly and prompt. If you like comfort food, this cafe should be included in your next trip to Dalton.
Asked for a food recommendation from our hotel receptionist and she instantly recommended Oakwood Cafe. Located in historic downtown Dalton, this fabulous restaurant is always busy. Everything is home cooked. Smoked Brisket, carrot soufflé and cucumber, tomato, & onion pickled salad, and a cornbread muffin crowded my $8.50 plate. My wife had a baked sweet potato, white corn soufflé, biscuit, and deep fried fresh chicken livers ( so hard to find on a menu anymore) for $8. We took home peach cobbler for $2.25. There’s a menu full of reasons why they are the number one restaurant in the area!
The food is mostly 95% awesome. This is the only visit I’ve gotten two paper thin pork chops. When I checked out I found out the owner gives ball players a 10% discount. I have received 2 Purple Hearts in Iraq, and I’ve had 9 major surgeries from my combat injuries just to be able to walk, but the owner don’t believe in military discounts, and yet he’s running for office and wants our votes. He is given all his privileges because of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for this country. I won’t be back unless he considers military discounts.
Let me start by saying we love the Oakwood IF dining inside, but the pickup service never gets my order right. In the past 10 times, I think it’s been right once. Always something left out or not as we asked. Tonight we ordered a salad with no onions, peppers, or cucumbers. Got all that but zero chicken salad. So that was not fun getting charged for food you don’t get. Asked for extra ranch, nope. I’m not going to die from any of this, but if you want honest feedback I’m trying to give it. If you dine inside, it will likely be a great experience. If you call in or order online to pick your food up, prepare to be disappointed. You guys need to work on that aspect of your business if you’re going to continue to offer that service.
We thought we’d try something local and the food wasn’t bad. The service wasn’t great. Just a little disappointed but our expectations weren’t that high.
Absolutely love the turkey and dressing and sweet potato souffle Friday specials for lunch. The collard greens are delicious as well. Best sweet tea you'll drink. Also noticed they use environmentally conscious marine biodegradable Phade straws that are very nice. Price for the turkey and dressing is reasonable for what you get. It was $9 and then $1.75 for a drink as of 2/25/22. Parking can be a bit of a challenge when they are busy, but a few lots to park in nearby if all the street parking is taken.
We were traveling through Dalton, and stopped for lunch at Oakwood Cafe. It was larger than we expected, but what a fun atmosphere. A strong University of Georgia Bulldog theme. It is a seat yourself cafe, and upon sitting we were immediately attended to. The menu gave us fun choices. When the food came we had even more fun....most interesting and tasty.
The food and the service was Amazing
Chicken casserole.....nothing but shredded chicken and liquids. collard greens and corn casserole were decent. Onion rings were pathetic. Broccoli casserole was over-cooked....mushy. We would not return when in Dalton.
