decided to check this place out after reading other reviews. it did not disappoint. it looks like a typical old diner. a bit dated, but for me that's some of the appeal. the staff were all friendly. Our food came out super fast.I ordered a heading skillet, my wife a tuna sandwich. both, a ton of food, and one of the better breakfasts I've had eating out in recent years. absolutely worth the visit.
Follow Me on Google or at @foodismyclassroom on FB/IGURGENT: FREE PARKING BUT RESTAURANT IS CASH ONLY (ATM is on premises if you can use any ATM with you card or don't mind the fees)Decided to catch breakfast this morning on a rainy cold April day.1. Fried Pork Chop and Egg Plate 4⭐You can get your pork chop grilled as well but I opted for fried. They are 2 thin cut choos but were moist. The batter was a little salty for my liking but I don't cook with much salt. So, I'm a bit bias. Its more of a cornmeal batter too than flour (similar to fish batter).I also got my eggs scrambled with cream cheese, herbs, spinach, and mushrooms. 5⭐It came with grits or house potatoes (spuds as they call them). I got both.Cheese Grits 3⭐ A bit too gritty for me.Spuds 1⭐ No flavor. Just cooked potatoes.2. Smoked Chicken Wings with Belgian WaffleThe smoked chicken 5⭐ Hot, moist, large wings, and flavorful.Cheese Eggs scrambled hard 4⭐Belgian Waffle 5⭐ It was really big.3. Pink Grapfruit Juice 5⭐Definitely yummy and tart just like a grapefruit juice lover likes it.The Apple Juice was good too but not as good as the PGJ.Bill: $45 due to the many substitutions I had. Much less without all the additions.
I love Thumbs Up Diner. I frequent Atlanta and whenever I’m in town I stop by. Their fried catfish is THE BEST. I get it every time I come. I also love their cheese grits, spuds and pretty much everything else I’ve at there. The French toast is really good too and I they give you a giant piece. Highly recommend. This is one of my favorite restaurants.
Let me start off by saying this place is AWESOME!! We visited Thumb Up Diner while on Spring Break. We're from Cincinnati, Ohio. Our server Taurus was AMAZING! Recommended some of the best food I ever tasted. The French Toast was huge. One piece is definitely enough. And they offered turkey bacon! This is a huge plus for a person who eats no pork. Nice portions of food at affordable prices! You guys got the right name....this place DEFINITELY gets 2 THUMBS UP!! I recommended anyone visiting Atlanta eat here. The best breakfast I ever tasted while on vacation!!
Food was great...Fried pork chops were excellent!! TRUE DINER, not good for large group over 4, mostly booths. Free parking. Outside patio.
The cash only sign should have told me to avoid this place. Who, in 2022, only accepts cash? Sounds like a money laundering operation. The portions of food were small and they used fake eggs in my Denver omelette. The service was terrible. My server waited 5-7 minutes to even greet me. The sweet iced tea I ordered was so overly sweetened, I had to order regular iced tea to cut the sweetness. My server only came my table three times. To take my order, bring me my overly sweet tea and to drop off my bill. Everything else I had to ask other employees for. When I paid, my server brought me only dollars bills back. When I inquired why he brought me only bills back, he said it was because of the “national coin shortage.”So they only accept cash payments and then don’t have coins to make change?I left him a 0.89 cent tip (the change I was due).AVOID THIS PLACE!!!There are SO many other places to dine in ATL (that accept cards).
Price and quality were good. Big portions too.The egg breakfast sandwich was my fav. Try them if you are craving some diner food!
This is our go-to brunch choice. The menu is simple and inclusive for all types of food restrictions. The food is super consistent. That is so important to me. When I get fried catfish, it tastes the same every time. The French toast tastes the same every time. Even the sweet tea is consistent. Our family loves this place and will continue to go until the end of time.
I love this place. Whenever I land into Atlanta,, my friend @ShayMcCray (radio personality) and I always hit up this spot. We both always order the fried catfish & grits which is ALWAYS on point. The catfish is seasoned to perfection. While some eat it with a fork, I prefer to break off chunks of the fish to dip it in my grits and eat it with my hands. Their jam is made in-house and if you are lucky, you will catch their blueberry jam! Ooohweeee. ? Overall, this place is amazing; however, bring that CASH because that is the only form of payment accepted! Running to an ATM machine before eating can be a major inconvenience. But! Oh, well…
Awesome service! The service was great & fast. I ordered the Low Country Heap. It was tasty but the potatoes were burned and sausage overcooked. Also, it's a cash only establishment. I understand the advantages but who carries cash anymore. There is an ATM on site for your convenience.
