It is sad to see that this beautiful cake wasn’t demolished by the 50 people at my son’s college graduation. We ordered a second lemon cake that was just as disappointing and also thrown away. The taste was just - not good. The frosting had the texture and taste of a stick of crisco- even though they only use the finest sweet cream. I really thought someone must have just made a mistake and didn’t add the sugar or something. After communicating with the bakery- they took no ownership and kinda made me feel like I was the one who didn’t know what I was talking about. The fact is- If you have that many people at a gathering- and a cake that feeds 30- you should not have a crumb left. So- no, it wasn’t me and my taste buds- the cakes were terrible. This did teach me a HUGE lesson- it’s better to have an affordable ,ugly , edible cake than an expensive, beautiful inedible one.
I contacted this business via email the evening of March 24th about having a cake made for my mother's birthday as I was put in charge of getting a cake last minute. They quickly responded (that evening) that they would be able to make one for me.\\n\\nI mentioned I saw a $45 cake on their website that was strawberries and cream and inquired about the serving size that would be. Once confirming it would be big enough for everyone attending our family gathering I placed the order.\\n\\nI asked about picking it up and was told they would deliver it for free if I lived in the area. I do live in the area so there was not delivery fee. I also asked if it would be available Saturday morning and they said they could deliver it between 10 am and noon. I asked if we might be able to push the delivery time closer to 1 pm as I realized I would be out that morning. They said that would be fine.\\n\\nAround 1:20 pm when I hadn't seen them I emailed back leaving my phone number as I realized I didn't provide it in any of our earlier correspondence. I also tried calling but got their voicemail. I left a voicemail with my number as well. They showed up around 1:30 pm ( not a big deal) and she took a picture of me holding the box with the cake in it.\\n\\nI did not open it at that time as I had met her outside and it was windy. Once inside I opened the box and noticed the cake was just plain (picture attached). On their website it said the cake would be garnished with fresh strawberries (website description screenshot attached) which is why I didn't ask for any extra writing or anything on it.\\n\\nBy that time I needed to head to the gathering and I knew there wouldn't be enough time to fix it so I emailed the company to notify them that my cake was not completed as described on the website with the fresh strawberries garnish. I also called and left them a voicemail and asked them to call me back. I waited until today (Monday the 29th of March) thinking maybe they had a busy weekend. When I still had not heard from them by this evening I decided to post this review.\\n\\nWhile the cake being delivered not completed with the strawberry garnish was disappointing I was more upset about the lack of communication after I voiced my displeasure with the final product. They were great at communicating to get me to place the order and sending me an invoice to pay but once they delivered the cake I feel (based on their lack of response) they felt the transaction was done despite them not completing their end of the deal.\\n\\nI can't say I would recommend this bakery for a special occasion cake. While the cake was decent (the icing had a strong taste of stick butter more than a white chocolate flavor but the cake was pretty good) it was an underwhelming experience for the price.
The marble cake with buttercream frosting is one of the best cakes I've ever had! I do not mean any hyperbole with this statement. The first time I had the cake was at a friend's wedding. I asked who made their cake, then began ordering it myself. That was years ago. In the years since, I have brought the cake to family gatherings and work events and received rave reviews. The last time I bought the marble cake it was a little dry, but that was the only time that has happened. Aside from the marble cake, we have tried other flavors such as strawberry, and did not find them as delicious as our standard marble with buttercream frosting. They also have some scrumptious breakfast delights like cinnamon rolls and tarts I'd highly recommend. Overall, The Cake Hag has wonderful sweets and a polite staff. Please give them a try.
I think the person that decorated the cake I ordered for my kids birthday today probably already knows the issues with the decorations. The sides of the cake were really cute but the top was kind of messy looking. However, the ordering process was easy and the cake tasted delicious and was delivered on time.
The birthday cake was extremely dry to the point where it was not edible and we had to throw it out. I'd order elsewhere.
Katie was super communicative throughout the process and even delivered the cake to my doorstep for free! The cake is excellent. We still have half leftover from when I ordered it a week ago and it’s still super moist. Highly recommend!
The Cake Hag did an awesome job with communicating via email, preparing a cake, customizing the cake with a message on top, and delivering in Decatur exactly when requested. The chocolate cake was so delicious and perfect. Thanks Katie and the team at Cake Hag.
Delicious cake, beautifully decorated. My guests raved about the delicate flavor and texture. Soooo good❤️
I’m really in awe of how great this cake turned out! I contacted the shop 2 weeks before my wedding and they were able to take my order. The cake was amazing and my Husband loved the carrot cake layer! While wedding cakes are always a big expense, after contacting probably 8 different shops, the Cake Hag was the most affordable! I look forward to an occasion to be able to use them in the future!
Delivered on time and the cake was FANTASTIC! For a dude looking to make his girlfriend happy with a special birthday cake you can't go wrong...trust me!
