My last trip to "Recess." New ownership and the food is NOT good. I had been here many times in the past, and enjoyed the fresh bowls a lot. It's inedible this time. The sweet potato "fries" look like home fries and taste like they had been thawed out - no crisp at all, just oversalted mush. The quinoa is hard. The soft boiled eggs turned neon pink, maybe cause the beets, but not appetizing. Kale is full of stems and not cooked or seasoned. If i wanted random vegetables, not cooked, I could do that a lot cheaper than $17 plus tip. Everything was lukewarm when it arrived. I paid for extra potatoes and kale cause usually they are so good.
I had the most amazing Brussel sprouts and cauliflower today- the best I’ve ever eaten. Our server Patrick was incredibly friendly. We got our food quickly and it was so delicious!
I cannot say enough great things about Recess! I have several severe food allergies, and this is one of the only restaurants in Atlanta that I've found to be both willing and able to accommodate me. Not only that, but they seem to take pride in doing so– this kindness speaks volumes!!! Shoutout to PATRICK and ERIC who have gone absolutely above and beyond to make me safe and delicious food! I always get the Super Bowl (modified due to allergies) and LOVE it! Every time I go to Krog Street, my friends look at what I have and wish they had ordered from Recess. 10/10 recommend for kind and caring employees, delectable food, and a great atmosphere!
This place is seriously amazing! There are vegan and celiac safe gluten free options. Even the FRIES ARE GLUTEN FREE because it’s a dedicated fryer! Ordered the Copacabana with added carnitas and I can’t stop thinking about it, the Year of the Tiger bowl with chicken was super tasty and filling, and the vegan cream sauce on the loaded fries is to die for. Definitely a great choice for lunch but the market has limited seating so you should get it to go.
My partner and I have a whole list of allergies and Recess is very allergen friendly, labeling their entire menu. We’re so far beyond that that we provide our own custom printed allergy card for the kitchen. Not only were they completely accommodating, but the food was clean and so delicious. We plan on returning often. Highly recommended.
What a great food place! The employees are super nice and the food was excellent. Though I only had the loaded sweet potatoes, the quality of the side item is most likely representative of yummy options on their entire menu.The loaded sweet potatoes fries came with chives, garlic and chipotle aioli, and chili crisps. The aioli was reminiscent of crème fraiche type sauce and tasted delightful with the chives and chili flakes. I wish the sweet potatoes were thicker and had more of a meaty and soft center to counterbalance crispy, dry texture of the other layer. Yes, my many years of watching cooking shows and eating at amazing restaurants has earned me an honorary culinary degree (jokes).I’m excited to return and try the other items on the menu. I definitely recommend this cute vegan spot to other foodies out there looking for healthy, or food tolerant, options.
This place just reopened and I ate there twice last week. Superbowl was very good and enough food for a second meal later that day. And the Carnitas Torta was delicious (juicy and crunchy). Don’t sleep on the desserts either. Will be back.
This is literally the best vegan food I’ve ever had. The loaded sweet potato fries and roasted Brussel sprouts were out of this world!
SO glad this place opened in Krog. It's the perfect mix of healthy and taste with great portion size. The bowls are all amazing (especially the Superbowl and My Farro Lady) and the premium adds are delicious. Sweet potato fries area must and the dunkaroos are the best desert I've ever had! I've visited 4 times since it opened two weeks ago.
I really wanted to love this place. I was unimpressed by the Superbowl that I ordered. The presentation was lousy and lacked effort. The chickpeas were straight from a can; absolutely no flavor. The coconut rice was over-cooked and also had no flavor. Everything was really strewn about. I might give them another chance, but perhaps not until they are back at normal functioning capacity.
