One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Atlanta. I love fried chicken and spicy food so putting these two together makes me HAPPY. The side dishes are delicious and the sweet tea is on point. The staff is very friendly but the wait time needs a little work. If you don't mind a little wait and are looking for some good ole southern fried chicken and sides check them out.
We were very pleased with our experience. The staff was friendly and made sure that we had everything we needed. The fried green tomatoes were a big hit and the chicken was very good. I highly recommend the macaroni and cheese as one of your sides. We went during lunch and it was not to busy.
Went in for dinner and was seated quickly. Drink came out quick and so did the food. Chicken was tender and juicy and hot. Ordered fry’s potato salad and all was delicious.
Mac and cheese, fried chicken, chess pie
Some of the best food I've had in Atlanta. 3pc dark meat plate plus greens, free refills and great pies
We walked through the door at 5:55pm on a Saturday night. Our order was finally placed at 6:04pm. We ordered fried green tomatoes which came out pretty quickly. However a few of the tomatoes were frozen. They were kind enough to replace them with a new order. Our meals of fried chicken and tenders were finally delivered to our table at 7:02pm. The chicken is crispy with decent flavor. However i would not recommend. No refills on tea in our entire hour here. The chicken is good. But i wouldnt come again.
Love fried chicken so decided to begrudgingly try this “self promoting” place (hate self promoters, too egotistical of an approach for me), but boy was I surprised.First the slaw: crunchy cabbage, not soaked or softened by the sauce, not overtly sweet either, very solid as a side (the way a side should be) not to overpower the entree.Second fried okra: as good as it comes, solid, cooked to perfection with nice breaded crustChicken: LOVED It. Not breaded beyond recognition, very lightly in fact, crust and the were skin very nice and Crunchy and full of flavor, just enough heat so that this hot and spicy food eater didn’t need to reach for any sauce to augment any flavors, perfect. I love dark meat so what I had were two thighs and a leg, all the pieces were cooked excellently and tasted just as good.Drink: sweetened iced tea, I usually stay away from it because most places just make it toooooo sweet, this was EXCELLENT, just sweet enough without leaving that aftertaste that ruins your next bite.Mac and Cheese: my wife ordered it, but man it was guuuuuuuuuuud! Gooey, cheesy, perfectly cooked noodles that held their consistency instead of being over cooked and a mushy mix in cheese. And the sauce and cheese and flavor were spot on.
Da South Got Sumthin 2Say!!I'm so glad that we searched correctly for this restaurant! We were on a trip with 3 small children with big appetites! We were in town for the Universal Soul Circus and the Georgia Aquarium! We had some time to eat in between so we stayed downtown! Its about a 15 min walk from the Aquarium depending on your fitness level lol. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken was our lunch of choice! I loved the music choices and family atmosphere. We didn't spend alot and we were full! The chicken has a special flavor just enough spice! It was crunchy and crispy ?The baked beans and slaw were awesome along with the collard greens and Mac and cheese! Oan: can't forget the fried green tomatoes ??1. GOOD FOOD 2. FAMILY ATMOSPHERE 3. GOOD LOCATION 4. GREAT PRICES!!! ? ??
Perfect first meal in Atlanta for our family. We were super hungry and wanted to find a restaurant with fried chicken. This place met our expectations and the fried chicken was so delicious. We each got the special, which was 2 chicken breasts. When the food came out the waitress let us know that they still needed to fry 2 more breasts, but gave us 2 thighs in their place while waiting for the breasts. We thought that level of service was so refreshing and honest. The fried okra was also good and we talked about the Mac and cheese for days after our meal.
I was in Atlanta for a convention and we’d seen Gus’ in a Google restaurant search. From the photos, it seemed charming with ambiance. They have a small menu but there was nothing lacking and the place was hopping. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was great (the chicken did have a little kick to it). Despite it being crowded, it wasn’t loud and we were able to have a pleasant conversation. If you order a soft drink, you get a souvenir cup. The person I was with had ordered water and was bummed about not getting a special cup. Just before we left, our server brought us our checks with a to-go refill for me (he brought it to be kind, I’d not asked for one). It came in a souvenir cup, which I was able to give to the person who’d ordered the water :).I highly recommend this place.
