My daughter heard Alton Brown list this as one of his favorite sandwiches on a best sandwiches show from Food Network, and had been dying to try ever since. It is in the Krog Street market, which is in a very hipster area of Atlanta, not far from Five points, where I use to visit as a young man. The parking is tough, but the valet was only 5 dollars and well worth it. I have to say, I love Laspada's steak and cheese in Sanford and Orlando Florida, but Alton really has something here, you can eat this one while driving, the way they incorporate the cheese really binds it together. I got mine with hot cherry peppers and my daughter got the Shroom Shire. She gave me a bite and I thought it would be a kind of heavy one note, but the aioli really brightens it up. Great sandwich, will try the Korean style next time through.
The chicken philly is excellent. If you like big hunks of garlic, you won't find better than the garlic fries here. 5 star quality, but 4 stars overall because at $22 plus tip it makes for a pricey 'sandwich and fries' lunch.
I heard the burger was great here from a Reddit thread and I wasn’t disappointed. Great tasting burger, quick service, and a perfect place to stop for lunch during a stroll on the beltline.
Fred’s used to be good. Not sure if they lost the original cook or what happened but the taste and quality of the food has taken an absolute nose dive over the past 4 years. The chicken Philly used to be well seasoned but now it’s very bland. One time they ran out of ingredients but instead of telling me, they tried to substitute the white American cheese for cheddar cheese and it was gross. Fortunately they gave me a refund. But had I not called back they wouldn’t have said anything.Save your money. This place used to be 5 stars. Not anymore.
Great sandwiches and good fries. They have a good variety of sandwich choices including cheesesteaks and poboys. I wish they would give you a buzzer once you order since it can take 10+ minutes to prepare your food and they do not have a counter for you to eat at. Finding seating (and parking!) at Krog Street market can be a delicate dance. It would be nice if you could order, go find a seat and then pick up your food when it's ready instead of just having to stand around and wait.
Their sign says something along the lines of the best Philly is no longer in Philadelphia. A bold statement to make, but they back it up with one of the best Philly’s I’ve ever eaten. Given the choice between them and Pat’s King of Steaks in Philadelphia, I think I’d choose Fred’s. The ribeye was tender and flavorful. They seem to mix the steak, peppers, and onions in with the cheese sauce which is a game changer. It holds everything together nicely and gives you the perfect bite every time. The fries were a bit on the salty side but still delicious. And I realize that salt content is a personal preference. The garlic aioli was amazing. It went great on both the fries and the Philly. If you’re looking for a quick bite and a delicious Philly, Fred’s is the place to go.
$27 for a cheesesteak, fries, and a glass bottle of coke?!!?! Then the cheesesteak had no flavor!!!! Worst cheesesteak experience I ever had, everyone just go to big Dave’s for a real cheesesteak in Atlanta!!!
Delicious food! Ate here twice. The second time was even better than the first visit. I had the pimento cheese sanwich with fried green tomato, bacon, lettuce and arugula. All I have to say is that sandwich was out of this world good. I have also eaten the tuna sandwich, the Godfather cheese steak and their seriously delicious garlic fries. I think you're going to be stunned at how much flavor is in the food especially the tuna. It's seasoned to perfection. This sandwich spot is a must try in Atlanta.
I keep lauding this place as the best cheesesteaks in Atlanta. I've been to them all and what sets Fred's apart is the quality of bread. Most other cheesesteak places in the area are using bread that's too soft which causes soggy bread and by extension a mess of a sandwich. Fred does it right with hoagie bread which, I believe is a french baguette allowing the meat's juices to soften up the bread nicely without causing a soggy bread. My go to spot all day long in Atlanta.
Ordered through DoorDash and was hoping it was delivered well since people talk so well about it and it did not disappoint. The burger with bacon and jalapeños was huge and juicy! Loved the garlic aioli for the fries. My grandma and I enjoyed and ordered again a couple weeks later but got a smaller burger ?
