Authentically Athens: casual, quirky, eclectic, eco-friendly, vegetarian options. I happened to love the mac n’ cheese, unlike other reviewers. I liked how real and authentic it tasted with melted cheddar on top. I had the BBQ plate with pork, mac n’cheese, homemade slaw, and fresh bread. Plus I tried their lightly sweetened tea and a side of vinegar-based BBQ sauce. My son tried the “Barbarella” sandwich on a ciabatta bun, which he enjoyed as well. It was a nice day, so we sat outside at one of the picnic tables. The inside looked nice though. It’s nicer than most casual BBQ places inside. The staff was sweet and accommodating. We’ll definitely be back! I like that they are keeping it real and authentic.
I have fairly high standards for BBQ, and the pulled pork here is a masterpiece. It is moist with ample smoke flavor, and mine was well seasoned. Whoever does the smoking should be quite proud. I really enjoyed the vinegary sauce, and it complements the pork perfectly if applied somewhat sparingly, in my opinion. Blows away any other BBQ I've had in this region. The burgers are spectacular, too. Love the pimento cheeseburger.
The food here was not a hit for me at all. I kept it safe with the BBQ chicken plate. The Mac and cheese was just noodles with cheese on top. The bbq sauce and everything in general just had a vinegar taste. The BBQ chicken was dry and not seasoned without even a hint of Smokey flavor. This just was not what I was expecting and was hoping for a better dining experience.
Best BBQ in Athens by a long shot. Always take friends and family here when they visit.
Lovely outdoor seating area, flavorful barbecue. The banana pudding is quite tasty.
The pulled pork & salmon sandwiches were amazing! They were also huge! The seasoning and cooks of each meat ? The fresh baked bread & toppings ? The white & red BBQ sauces ?Sure the mac n cheese was just ok & most seating is outside, but that doesn’t diminish 5 stars. I will recommend white tiger to everyone based on their incredible sandwiches!
Waited 25 mins on a to go order that was supposed to take 15 minutes, i even tipped the kitchen and got home and my supposed to be chicken sandwich was pork :( called back and got a gift certificate for next time, but still doesnt excuse it when i go out if my way 30 mins to support a local business unfortunately. Please be more attentive...Ended up eating the pork sandwich after i wrote this review. It was pretty good until i almost cracked my tooth on whatever this is.
A friend who lives in Athens highly recommended this place to us when I asked him about BBQ places in Athens. We ordered online, and the order said it would be ready at a certain time, so we planned around that time since the place was on our way to our next appointment. However, when we arrived, the order was not ready. They weren't busy...like 6 other people were dining in. The staff were too busy carrying on a conversation and this affected their timeliness. Our order was ready about 15 minutes past the time the online ordering system told us, so we were late to our next appointment. Food- We've had better BBQ. The smoked chicken sandwich was good, but not great. The Barbarella was decent. However, there weren't many side options available and we got Mac and cheese and grilled veggies. Mac and cheese was just okay. As for the veggies- the broccoli was good, but how do cabbage and collard greens count as veggies one would grill? Banana pudding was alright. Honestly, there are better places to eat in Athens, especially ones that offer BBQ... I mean, this place doesn't even have fries or stew. Now, I am questioning my friend's taste in food.
A bit pricey, relative to other places, for smallish sandwiches, but definitely very good quality. I spiced the mild sauce with Texas hot, and that made it excellent.
The Happy Top burger is the best burger in town, and it’s not even close. Be sure to order two if you’re thinking about hanging a fang on this masterpiece.
