We had friends recommended The Place and it did not disappoint! Our waiter recommended a couple of drinks and we enjoyed them. I had the bourbon glazed salmon with collards and grit cakes. It was a-maz-ing! My hubby had the shrimp and grits and it was also very yummy! We can't wait to back and try more. We will not be taking our kids, as they would not enjoy the menu.

We were not impressed. Chicken and waffles were OK. Chicken was a little overdone/tough. Shrimp and grits were not quite ok. Shrimp was overdone, cattle corn(my personal term for large kernel late harvest corn suitable only for cattle feed) whatever sauce is around the grits was cold. There were just two thin quarter slices of andouille sausage that were the star of the dish. Service was fine.

Stopped in on a walk by UGA with a party of 6. I had the hamburger,my friend the shrimp burger, my wife had fried chicken and someone else had the chicken and waffles. High praises all around! The food had a great southern spicy taste. My wife said the side of corn was a bit too spicy. All in all a great stop. We had bloody Mary’s and some draft beer.

Upstairs has great atmosphere with flat screen TV’s and music. Delicious salmon dinner with grit cakes and collard greens. All cooked to perfection. My husband had the trout special with the best au gratin potatoes he’s ever had and the trout was delicious. If you’re a fan of old fashions this place makes a perfect one. We even got to meet “The Chef” who was very personable. Great service. Visiting from the ShowMe State?

We stopped in here for lunch while visiting Athens and it was amazing! The service top notch, great cocktails, and the burger was just what I needed. Try the bourbon/peanuts/coke cocktail. Will come here again!

This is the kind of restaurant that makes you fall in love with Athens all over again! Eriena was our server at the bar, and she was well versed in every area of the restaurant ranging from food to its history. She had a subtle, confident yet humble aura that elevated the dining experience! Sure, the food was lovely and finger-licking good, but it’s Eriena that surpassed all expectations and provided the Athens experience we were looking for! Go dawgs, and thanks, Eriena.

We really like The Place. It's kinda small, but cosey, inside. Loved the collards and black eyed peas. Have to go back for the garlic shrimp sandwich and the evening menu pork chop.

This place was sooo good! My girlfriend and I went on a Saturday night during peak dinner hours and got seated immediately. Two-floor layout with a bar upstairs-- very nice balance of fun but polished. Our server/bartender was very professional but personable and knew the menu and substitutes very well. They had drink recommendations ready to fire off and made sure everything was satisfactory (it was beyond satisfactory). The meals, while having refined culinary details, were not expensive either-- exceptionally priced I'd say. I recommend the chicken and waffles, and for the drink, I don't remember what mine was called, but just ask for something with tequila and I'm sure it'll be good!

The food was great! We got chicken and waffles and BLTs, and we enjoyed all of them. We were able to eat quickly, too- we came in for lunch and we were in and out within 40 minutes. The service was pretty good, and the prices were reasonable. The location is also great- right across from UGA.

Delicious meal and great service! Shared the southern fried veggie appetizer and famous buttermilk chicken sandwich and side of homemade mac & cheese with my daughter. Large portions and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
