Took a chance, gotta love a little hole in the wall hidden gem. I got the snow crab snack. The seasoning was amazing, I wanted to lick my entire bowl. Not old bay. Crab was better than I have had in Maryland. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I would definitely come back. Thanks guys!
My wife and I had decided to have a nice dinner out at one of the local restaurants that was highly rated (we haven't tried it yet, but the reviews and menu looked great). But as luck would have it, they are closed on Mondays. So, the decision was made to try the Crab Stop instead since they offered King Crab (my pick) as one of their items as well as crab cakes (my wife's pick) as another. The reviews seemed as good as the original choice so, off we went. Though it was a Monday and approximately 5:45 P.M. and there were only 2 other tables being served, I was told that they were out of my first choice, King Crab (even though it was listed on the chalk board as a "special of the day"). The waiter recommended the Snow Crab with an added cluster to make up for the amount of meat as a substitute. He further mentioned that the price of the added cluster of Snow Crab would end up costing about the same amount in total as if I was to order the King Crab. I instead opted for the regular Snow Crab meal without the added cluster but added clam chowder as an appetizer since I was hungry. My wife ordered the Crab Cake dinner (as expected). When the chowder arrived, my wife asked if she could try it. I gave her the first spoon and asked what she thought. "Too salty" was her response. When I tried it, not only was it way too salty, but it was almost room temperature! I would say "lukewarm" at best! Then came the entrees. Her Crab cakes were almost black on the outside and completely undercooked on the inside. I asked if I could try it when she told me it was "not good" to see why she would say that since I can't remember her ever saying that about one of her favorite meals. I can only assume they had some Crab meat in them but all I got was Crab flavored mush in a hard very, very dark brown (just this side of black) outer shell. Mostly filler, very little, if any meat. When I tried the red skinned potatoes, I found that what looked like seasoning was in fact a heavy layer of salt with what I can only guess was a light sprinkle of chili powder for color (not for flavor, that's for sure). When I looked under the over salted potatoes, I found more potatoes but, completely without seasoning of any kind along with an egg and a few thin slices of what they called sausage. By this time, I was hoping the Crab would finally justify my choice of restaurant only to be, yet again, disappointed. They covered the Crab leg shells in the same high salt, low anything else "seasoning" and somehow managed to make the crab meat yet another disappointment. Maybe their fried stuff is better, but we will not be going back to find out. My cardiologist won't let me. Too much salt raises your blood pressure.
Shrimp Bowl and Scallop Bowl
I have a serious couple of complaints. The crabs that we ordered we're missing the biggest leg of the cluster, were small clusters on all four of our orders and each order was over $70. However I looked at other tables specifically the one next to us with a lesser order, and their crabs were quite huge and none of their legs were missing from either clusters. I ordered another cluster only and it too was small and the meat stuck like glue to the inside of the crab legs and of course missing the big leg. This is twice that this happened in visiting. We're going to go one more time and I'm going to take a picture for good measure. Also the men's bathroom was gross and unattended. And what's upsetting is we are very generous we tipped 18 to 20% on very large checks for the few of us that eat and they do very little to earn it. They drop off ou drinks, apps, and our meal and that's it, you never see the person again unless you call them over but they're usually busy and it takes a while. Neither occasion we were there did anybody clean the table of the extra crab legs that were stacking up. The inside is clean and attractive and they provide nice utensils.
Do yourself a favor and enjoy some of the best fried shrimp, coleslaw and fries most places in our country has to offer. This was a great find,, Chris ,our waiter was a real gem! Cannot wait to return here, and try the crab dishes. Music and a neat guy playing tunes last night!
I read the reviews and we went for the crab. A Monday night at Stebastian location, relatively busy and did not wait very long, more limited staff situation like everywhere but no complaints. We ordered fried clam strips and a pitcher of the best beer-Yuenglings. Clam strips were ok not spectacular. For dinner, the feast of champions - Mayor Robbie Special. The crab was excellent and shrimp outstanding. Tons of butter and garlic. Good combo with potatoes, corn was tasty for out of season. Glad we went!
It was to be a special night as our family were together from Alaska, the UK and Connecticut. Having rung to make a reservation we were told it was not needed. Arrived to find reception unmanned, the few staff harried, the menu board saying that there was no blue crab, oysters...etc. We waited for an hour to be seated at a bare table. We had to go to get our own drinks at the bar, the orders were taken after 20 minutes and when the food arrived some was raw and some burnt...To add insult to injury they padded the bill with a drink we bought at the bar. It was a special night as it was an ABSOLUTE NIGHT MARE, WASTE OF MONEY!!
Amazing fresh seafood, yes fresh, I seen the owner bring a box (plastic tote with little air holes not a cardboard box) of fresh blue blue crab while there. Definitely a great little seafood place, I will be hitting it up again on my next visit to FL!
Yummmm. Wish they had more bottles beer. Chris was amazing. The crab was bomb. The buffalo shrimp had too much sugar. Service was great. Will be back.
In town for a baseball trip and decided to check this local place out. Excellent food and service! We got a table combo and couldn’t finish it all there was so much. Highly recommend.
