Went here for lunch while in Venice for work. Place doesn’t look like much, but the food was actually pretty good. I had the build your own burrito with chicken, steak, rice, peppers, onions and cheese. The meat had good flavor and wasn’t overcooked. The peppers and onions weren’t overcooked and they actually tasted like peppers and onions. Overall, decent food at a decent price.
Tomatillo's is one of my favorite local spots in Venice. There food has always been fresh and the quality is consistent! They truly embody the description of \\\"fresh Mex\\\". My personal favorites are the Junk Yard Bowl and the beef Empanadas. But everything here is great and the food is always satisfying on hot Florida days.
Ordered a burrito. Tortilla was like raw dough. Refried beans had been sitting long enough for a "skin" to form on them. Unable to add onions and peppers because they appeared extremely overcooked. Lettuce not fresh. Spicy salsa not spicy and had an off putting acidic flavor. Had to request sour cream three times. A couple of bites in and gave up. I tossed it in the trash.
I live in Minnesota. Found Tomatillo's when stayed at Fairfield Inn across the street several years ago. Think of their soft shell tacos often. See them make it. Know eating healthy. So when I get to Florida a couple times a year, make a special trip to Tomatillo's even though I'm usually staying in Fort Myers. So worth the drive.
The salsa was strange when I first went here but I'm changing my review to 5 stars instead of 4.
At a glance I thought we had walked into a Subway sandwich shop, the case of ingredients looked similar. However these were ingredients to build your own taco, burrito, chalupa, bowl, salad, etc., and the ingredients were very good for the most part. My only complaints were that the salsa lacked body and flavor, and they didn’t serve chopped onions, only green onions or scallions. I enjoyed a bean burrito while my husband had a steak burrito, both were very good...and were from Texas, so we know Tex-Mex!
Easy, fast, fresh, tacos in minutes. First time here. I will be back. Taco Tuesday is the way to go. Staff was pretty friendly as well.
Clean restaurant, good food and very nice employees. Very casual and relaxed environment. Fast service!!
saw taco tuesday sign and stopped in. staff was very nice and helpful. I liked the beef tacos but the chicken tacos were dry. the place is clean. will go back for the smiles
Downgrading previous review because originally, restaurant did NOT tell customers that their refried beans contained LARD and although not strict vegan or vegetarian, was very disappointed to find this out when they finally started alerting customers a couple years ago because I avoid red meat and pork for health reasons. Unfortunately, although promising to eventually start using lard-free beans, restaurant has never followed through. Every other Mexican Restaurant in area uses fresh, lard-free beans, so can't understand why they haven't changed to healthier refried beans. You can even buy lard-free beans in the can from Publix, so this is not an uncommon product. Vegetarians and vegans beware! The bean burritos contain LARD. I stopped going to this restaurant because of the situation.
