What a blessing to find a gem ? when you are not looking. On vacation in Tampa and played a round of golf. We decided that we wanted to eat Jamaican food and did a google search. The Hummingbird Jerk Restaurant popped up. We got here and ordered. The food was amazing and the service exceptional. The owner Patrick is welcoming and displayed outstanding Customer Service. So excellent food and excellent customer service = The Hummingbird Jerk House. A must try. bless up
Jerk and curry chicken were fall off the bone tender. Juicy and savory meat with the most flavorful rice and peas.Order a fried dumpling on the side to soak up the sauce and get their homemade ginger beer. Its spicy and fresh, goes great with the ting soda (grapefruit).The owner is lovey. Come support her and enjoy the beautiful meals she creates!
Had a mega Oxtail dinner here at hummingbird bird. It's actually one of my favourite Jamaican places to eat here in Tampa. 5 stars because (1) the service is always great, (2) you can tell that the rice and peas is fresh and prepared to traditional standards, and (3) the meat is always well seasoned.
I read the reviews and saw some good and bad. Honestly I didn’t know what to expect. Got the jerk chicken and it was good. Makes sense to get something jerk at a jerk house first. I would come back and try goat and other items.
This place gives you island vibes for sure. Down to earth spot and amazing people. Food is delicious and fresh. Definitely the spot to go to if your in the mood for curry goat in the Wesley chapel area. Owner is friendly and makes you feel welcomed.
Wow! What a vibe! Such an authentic Jamaican experience! First time here and I'm so glad I decided to stop by. Note that they are closed on Mondays. The Jerk Chicken is perfectly spiced and literally falls off the bone. The portions are great and my $16 dinner lasted me for 2 nights! They use the freshest ingredients for the rice/beans, cabbage and plantains. Just fantastic! I definitely enjoyed supporting this local business over the other chain restaurants in the New Tampa area.This cuisine is a niche and not your typical American style restaurant, so some of these reviews are a little biased comparing expectations to mainstream places to eat. You are served in styrofoam containers that are neatly taped so nothing leaks out. I've never seen a place do that before and I've eaten at hundreds of places. It was such a nice touch. The woman I ordered from was so sweet and extremely helpful explaining all the options since I didn't really know exactly what to order. I definitely recommend giving this place a chance for an amazing meal that will not disappoint you if you want to eat real Jamaican food.
We ordered the oxtail meal and the jerk chicken meal. Both tasted very very good! I wish the oxtails were a little bigger for the price paid but the flavor was absolutely delicious! The jerk chicken was tender, flavorful, and had a nice kick. The plantains, veggies, peas n rice were perfect. I will definitely eat here again!
Went here a month ago and ordered the goat curry. Fall-off-the-bone tender, flavorful, delicious rice and beans, and plantains. A little pricey, but all prices are going up for restaurants in Tampa. Very friendly, attentive staff, too!
Visiting Tampa for the first time and got to try 3 different Jamaican restaurants. By far this is the best of the 3. The Food was great; the rice and peas was flavorful and could be eaten by itself. This is the only place I can say I enjoyed eating cabbage. We ordered the stew chicken and the Jerk chicken both had enough meat and gravy. I eill definitely frequent this restaurant on my return to the Tampa area.
