We had a fantastic lunch at Nilsa's. It has such a welcoming feel and some great food. I would say some of the very best aroz con gandules that I have had. It's conveniently located right next to Busch Gardens for an easy stop before going to or after the parks.
Just minutes ago, I walked in there to do an interview and Nilsa herself starts in on me and begins screaming at me and also bugging in while I was being interviewed by her daughter. Her daughter even asked why she was being so crabby(not the exact words but you get it)and she blamed a headache. I wish I could give this place negative 5 stars. However, her daughter was a kind and listening person. She oughta give the business to her daughter since that was who clearly was the truly business savvy one.I'll be leaving another review if I get a call about this review.
I was very disappointed with the taste of the food. The yellow rice was bland, no flavor and no onions, or anything to season, the pigeon peas in the rice were minimal, rice 2/10. The pork was ok nothing out of the ordinary, they could add onions as typical puertorrican cuisine. The empanadas were the worst, small and empty like a small scoop of meat and no cheese (like in description). Missed opportunity for a puertorrican food joint that could make lots of money out of many puertorricans living nearby.
One of my favorite authentic Puerto Rican food Spots. When I'm on this side of town is a must for me. Food is excellent and homemade feel-good quality.
I came back to see if there were changes on the rest. From outside it looks closed. The place was empty at 5 - 6:40 pm. No, it’s still the same issues. There is no hospitality with the servers. They kept disappearing n we had to ask for utensils, drinks, napkins. I always ask for combo one. N again very disappointed. The flavors were not there. The pastel was very salty, the alcapurria didn’t have that flavor, The tostones were soggy, plantain were hard. I’m puertorican I expect the foods to taste like it. I’m sorry but NO.
This place pretty much tastes like home cooking which is scary so definitely try out some of their food

Amazing authentic Puerto Rican food with a great atmosphere. Yeah I ordered porkchops and they fried them fresh.
