Walked in and was greeted right away. Hostess was very friendly and very helpful. Our waitress Chenin wasn’t as great as hostess. She got our drinks and never came back. We sat there for 20mins till my husband got up(which he NEVER EVER does) to ask the hostess where our server was because the table next to us and in 19 mins after us ordered & received their food before us. Another table was sat about 5min after the table next to us and ordered before us. The server said she didn’t know we were ready because she thought we were waiting on other people but, she never even bothered to check on us.( we had 2 menus on the table that’s it so not sure how she got that we were waiting) I gave 2 stars for the following reasons, #1 the hostess and #2 food came out hot, fresh & quickly. If none of this happened, it would of been a one star because I’m unable to give a zero.
We tried to get a seat at the Metro Diner on Sunday but the wait was a bit crazy. We did manage to gain a table on Monday morning. What's the fuss? They tout this place as where the locals eat. Well, it's a well ordered machine for sure, electronic order taking and no less than 5 cooks along with a well managed and gracious staff. The food? Excellent. I highly recommend visiting the Metro Diner and Kudos to our waiter Jonathan, he provided excellent service.
We really wanted to like this place more than we did. The food was generally under seasoned, the waffle came with hard, not soft butter…and our waitress had a hard time finding hot syrup (they broke one of their syrup dispensers the day before). While the food was unimpressive, our waitress was very good—attentive and friendly.
At peak times like when we went on a Saturday before we drove to the White Sox/Rays game there is a 30 minute wait, but worth it. Great diner atmosphere, pure fun, terrific hostess who was like a music conductor. Our server, Rashidi? Was full of personality and highly efficient. My pancake and English muffin were great. Jo Ann’s bacon, eggs, and toast were also excellent. A must see in Tampa
Food is good, but I felt like it could've been great if it wasn't so crowded. I guess a Quality/Quantity type of thing. Our waitress Dallas was amazing and very Attentive! Though the food was overcooked, it came out pretty fast. I'd been waiting to go here a while, first impression not that great (food wise).**Edit** : Not to be rude at all. But most people wouldn't have sent it that way. So it's not necessarily on me to tell a "chef" the toast or bacon is overcooked. When by observation of others, theirs hasn't been prepared that way. As I stated, I feel like it was because of the morning rush and I'm understanding of that. I hope that when I come at another time you do prepare something that I will love. Thank you for your reply ?
We love Metro Diner! This our first time coming for dinner and definitely won’t be our last. I’ll be trying the fish fry next after seeing the waitress pass our table with someone else’s order. Also a great place for breakfast. I’d highly recommend saving your spot in line for breakfast at their website because there’s usually a wait.
I can definitely see why they have posted on the wall...."This is where the locals eat." This place is probably the best breakfast place you're going to find anywhere around. And the service was very fast and very friendly. I got the biscuits and gravy and it was absolutely loaded with sausage and tasted like it was made from scratch.
So we came here when another restaurant we liked closed. Prices were VERY GOOD. HUGE portions! like my husband and I had so much food left over. Sausage patties were way bigger than I thought, hash browns were like for 3 ppl as much as it was. Would DEFINITELY return again with the kiddos. I will say the coffee is nasty like very bland but I won't knock off a star for that although it's almost worth losing a star.
Metro was suggested by someone who used to live in Tampa. I dine there Easter Sunday early afternoon. When a placed is packed with locals dining in and getting to go, hit the jackpot. Just great basic food like fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf. Great breakfast options. It was a wait, but didn't mind. Once seated, my waiter was excellent. Great vibe and happy to serve. Same vibe from all the staff. Got the chicken meal. OMG was so good! Half a chicken with two sides. Was stuff. Other items passing my table look good. For the food received great value. Would dine here again
great service and great food at a very reasonable price
