It is okay. It would be better if the pastries were fresher. I’d say make less pastries more often so they’re fresh. The media lunas are stale, as were several other items I purchased. I’m Argentinian and was very excited to see a bakery in the area; however, it hasn’t been very satisfying the times I went. Since it’s the only in the area, I’ll try giving it a chance again but I’m truly looking forward to visiting the Arg bakery in Sarasota when I get the chance.
I have been a fan for more than 40yrs and they continue to impress me. I remember coming here as a child and thinking about how great everything looked. We celebrated my son's birthday this weekend and Housewife mad the most amazing Tres Leches cake for us. We all absolutely loved it. My 8yr old daughter went with me to pick up the cake and she was given a macaron and told this is for being a good helper. She loved it and told everyone at the party about her experience. I will continue to be a fan but I had to share because when I think of home, which for me has always been Tampa, I think of The Housewife Bakery. Highly recommend a visit.
Use to be great. The last couple of times that we went the carrot cake was stale and the cookies were stale as well. Hard and dry. I don't think we will be going back. Alessi bakery had the same products but better quality and fresh.
This bakery has been in Tampa on the same corner for several decades. They may not have the reputation of Alessi's or Wright's, but they are good and dependable. The have a good assortment of baked goods. They also have a good Cuban sandwich. And they have lasagna. They have good, courteous service. The chocolate chip cookies my son and I had were pretty good, but everything else has been good. To top it off, their prices are reasonable.
All the Tampa residents who have been around a while know this place. The café con leche is always a nice treat as are the sweets they offer from cakes, pastries to cookies. Many unique things to try.The big draw for many of us who live in Tampa is something like a cold pizza called "scacciata". I recommend you try at least one piece as it's really something worth checking out. A simple little thing but so good. Many of us in the area grew up with this at any social gathering you attended. You can buy entire trays or half trays for a crowd. The building is very easy to miss if you go. The exterior is a simple gray building at a busy intersection.Once you go in prepare to come out with more than you need because there are so many things, you'll want to try a few from each category. A nice hot cup of café con leche will give you a boost to get you home with your treats. Limited seating, best to plan to grab and go. Very polite staff and very clean interior.
Amazing amazing amazing. Not sure what the 4 stars are for. The food is amazing. The owners are super friendly. I can’t say enough. The spinach empanadas are Devine. The meat pastries are like a hug from the Lord. All the sweets are delish. This place has never disappointed. ! Highly recommend !
My family has been ordering from Housewife Bakery for Years! It's a staple I'm my family to order a sheet of Sicilian pizza for Christmas eve/day. Everything from their pizza to the cheesecake to the dessert and cookies... oh man you just can't pass this place up.
We've had limited selections over two visits, so I'll start at 4 stars and see what happens. First, Gingerbread! It is clear as soon as you pull into the parking lot that gingerbread man is a specialty here oh, so I cannot figure out why none of the other reviews seem to mention the Gingerbread. A friend pointed us here, and even though three out of five in the family typically don't like gingerbread, we gave it a shot and LOVED it! Their gingerbread men (and women) have a more subtle ginger taste, and the texture is like any more conventional cookie (firm but soft and chewy). Unfortunately, the other item we tried once, the bread pudding, was simply awful. The taste and texture were unlike anything we had tasted, almost like burnt soap (which I know makes no sense at all). If we hadn't driven 30-45 minutes before tasting, we would have asked for a refund. The customer service has been very welcoming, so I suspect they would have honored it. It's just a shame the it was such a 180 from the deliciousness of the gingerbread. But at least we had 1 piece of bread pudding vs. 12 gingerbread people!
My mother brought me here as a child in the early seventies regularly. The Housewife Bakery is still here today serving the best pastries cookies and eclaire's, they have rven even got sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches they have awesome bread and even scacciattica pizza. There is not anything to NOT love about this place. Order ahead and by the platter also available for catering and special events every day.
Just a short wait when I entered the shop. After being waited on, the man who waited on me was very courteous and friendly.
