The food is delicious and the waiter was professional. Good experience.
Beautiful restaurant, great food, superb service. I highly recommend this restaurant
Never disappoints great service and outstanding food!
Our son and his girlfriend both graduated from local universities, and although we’ve visited Tampa often during those four years, we’d never tried Bern’s until this special occasion. Our experience was everything we heard it would be. It was very special and we’ll all remember it for years to come. This was NOT one of those times when you have very high expectations and then feel let-down. It was fabulous. Perfect food, warm and professional service, and an attention to desserts that I never imagined was possible until I experienced it and saw it for myself.
Interesting experience. Atmosphere is definitely unique. We had reservations for the dessert room. Our plans changed a few days out so we were unable to grab steakhouse reservations. Dessert was delicious. The apple bread pudding was far better than the cheesecake. We also had the macadamia nut ice cream. It’s different and a taste that is hard to describe. We would go back but I’m not sure it’s a once in a lifetime kind of place.
Berns has been one of my favorite restaurants for the 30 years I have lived in Tampa however the last two times I have gone have been very disappointing. Berns has lost it uniqueness. Next time I will go to Ruth Chris.
I don't like to write bad reviews. However in this case, it needs to be done as a service to others. The atmosphere is a time capsule of worn and funky decor, a marriage between a 70's horror film and The Haunted Mansion at Disney. Now for the food. The fois gras a la plancha was barely a mouthful of fois gras on top of a piece of dried-out toast covered in what tasted like apple pie filling. The french onion soup, baked potato and salad were average, with the salad being predominantly iceberg. As a word of advice, steer clear of the toast points. They are tasteless pieces of cough-enducing sawdust. For my main, I had the luxe tasting, which consisted of tough cuts of medium-rare wagyu, delmonico and fillet mignon tainted with the flavor of lighter fluid. Based on word-of-mouth, I had high-hopes for this Tampa institution and was sad to have wasted my time and money on such a mediocre experience.
This review is for the desert room since we were not able to get a reservation for the regular restaurant on a weekday night no matter how frequently we called.Bern’s is one of those places that had a TON of hype throughout central Florida. It’s old-fashioned in the best way possible with classic food, service and charm. The desert room is located on the second floor in the back of the restaurant and you used to go there after dinner. Luckily you can do desert separately if you are willing to go right as they open. The little booths you sit in are insanely cool and be prepared to have a very difficult time choosing what sweet treat you want to eat. Service was amazing and prices are high enough to blow your socks off. Unfortunately the desert was just OK? We sampled 3 different things and the cheese plate and while all of them were good, none were particularly memorable. Overall the experience was worth it - hopefully we can try the full restaurant experience some day.
Awesome! Yes, meals will cost over $100/person on average, but you WILL be full between soup, salad and sides with your TENDER steak. Our 2 wine glasses only cost $16, and we skipped desert this time as we had the birthday cake waiting at home.FANTASTIC MEAL! Extra kudos for our waiter straining out the onions for our "French" soup which was wonderful! We'll be back again!
OMG really. I mean it. The place is deceptive. But when you walk in you are transported to a delightful playground for the senses. Gorgeous foyer, leads to enjoyable dining room. The dinner was fantastic. That word is overused, but it was remarkably good. We had the A5 Japanese Wagyu. It melted in our mouths. The steak came with all the extras… soup, salad, sides (oh the onion rings!). The only downside was that we had to go to a different room for dessert. Great service though. They allowed us to order our dessert to go while at the table. My favorite was the Creme Brûlée and my husband loved the Banana Cream-Cheese Pie. If we had room in our bellies, we would have eaten ice cream there, even if we had to move to another room.
