I had a good experience. The food and drinks are a bit pricey for the portion sizes. I like the concept of ordering your food via app. The food was ready in less than 10min of me ordering. All of the food tasted fresh. Let me you tell you, if you eat pork.....get the pork belly taco. It's amazing!! I'm definitely going back for more pork belly tacos. I had the key lime pie for dessert. It was very satisfying.
Great spot. Went there twice in two days. Always a must when in Hyde Park. Great good and drinks. Lots of seating. Chill atmosphere.

This is a neat looking restaurant located near what I would think is the center of Hyde Park. The décor is different, and the views are amazing. Quite the diverse crowd too. Definitely a different vibe from what I am used to at my local McDonalds. Bartaco has embraced the post-COVID intangible menu attitude I've seen popping up in more hip parts of town. You have to pull the menu up on your phone. It took a bit of work, but I made it happen. So you order your food on your phone and you pay for it on your phone. This definitely cuts down on the amount of server interaction. They no longer have to take your order or run your bill back and forth, yet the restaurant app "guides" you to leave a 18-20% tip. If myself and my phone are doing half the work now that the servers used to do, why am I leaving 20%? I find 15% generous in these situations. So first I ordered the chicken soup. What I got was a bowl of broth with some chicken skin and peppercorns in it (non-consumable corn cob and some carrots as well). I was sort of surprised but did not comment because maybe this is a cultural norm that I was not aware of. I then ordered three tacos. They tasted good, but they were pretty small. Not a meal despite costing more than I would expect to pay for a lunch. And oh man one of them was next-level spicy. I thought my tongue was going to need therapy. This left me thirsty, so I decided to order a drink. Any place that has a mojito on the menu I will give a try. Restaurants do not like to make them because they take a lot of effort, but if I am going to pay $10 for a drink...My $10 mojito did not taste as I expected. It was extremely "limey" and foamy with very little mint or carbonation. It may though have had the most rum I've ever had in a mojito. So lunch ran me about $30 and left me kind of disappointed. The real value here is the view and the people watching.
Went here yesterday with a friend! We tried the “secret menu” and it was an amazing experience! The drinks had fresh fruit. I had a mojito and it was PERFECT! Then I had a ginger drink that was non alcoholic and it was extremely refreshing. We ordered a chicken bowl and a pork belly bowl. You can tell the meat had been marinated! There was so much flavor. The peppers had a crunch to them when I bit into them. It’s the freshness for me! The lamb tacos had a little kick to them. Whoever is cooking KNOWS what they’re doing. The staff was very friendly. We never had to call a waiter over. They always came and made sure we were straight. Bartaco is located in a prime area. Hyde Park is a beautiful place surrounded by unique shops and restaurants.
First time trying this place. Love the decor and how it’s opened up inside. Staff was really friendly. All the food was delicious and the Margaritas taste perfect! Definitely will eat here again.
Great concept with everything coming out as quick as possible. Everyone inside is VERY unorganized. You should either take reservations or only do walk-ins. The waitlist is the worst concept ever. You call in and they will tell you 30 mins and to check in at stand- when you get there is when your REAL wait time starts. Seems very pointless as to even have this system as the point of calling or reserving is NOT to wait. The host desk as well when we called said we can be pushed back amid we showed up a little later and assured me our table would be ready since we called for a waitlist earlier- this was NOT the case. People at the host stand were rude and didn’t have an answer why we were told one thing and offered another- 0 communication. The drinks were very very sour with way too much lime which we didn’t drink. The pineapple specialty margarita had 0 pineapple flavor. When you finally do sit down after waiting forever and seeing empty tables all over the restaurant someone walks up that isn’t even YOUR server as they don’t have set servers… if you do not have set servers use all the tables you have!!! Workers were standing around talking- they could have easily sit all tables. You order food from a QR code which is nice you can choose what you want but VERY hard if you don’t like something that comes on the fish to take it off or substitute. The order form asks for your name but when the food comes there’s no name with the order- this is VERY hard for a large group of people ordered similar things. The food did come out VERY fast which again they should have had more tables open if the food then time is low and workers are standing around talking… street corn was great, the duck and oyster tacos were everyone’s favorites! The shrimp was so spicy it was inedible. This can be a great spot with some more direction will not be coming back as too many other great food places nearby.
I’d seen this place for a few years (visiting town maybe 3-4 times a year) and thought it looked and sounded cool, so maybe my anticipation and expectations got the better of me. Appearance and location — very interesting look and feel about the place, in a great location in Hyde Park Village Service — Place your order on your cellphone, so you never even see your server until food starts arriving. And the food comes out very quickly, it’s quite an efficient system even during a busy Saturday night. Food — Everything seemed fresh, but the flavor just wasn’t there for me. The guacamole was fantastic, but the tacos were so-so. I had four different kinds, and for each it was the same, a small slab of protein and a small amount of a sauce, and maybe a couple julienned specks of cilantro. [And I know “real” tacos … at least I’m glad they weren’t served gabacho-style with lettuce and tomato and shredded cheese.] Even the chorizo was disappointing … you expect bold and savory flavors from chorizo, and there was almost no flavor there. If it weren’t for the wonderful, fresh, subtle flavors of that great guacamole, I would’ve thought my sense of taste had been dulled. Nope, it was the tacos. And that’s a shame, because I really wanted to like this place.
I enjoyed the new experience and the food is very tasty but it wouldn't be my go to Friday night taco place. Go with good friends where your best manners can be a little looser. I say that because all of the ordering is done thru an app by the diners. So the food comes out at all different times depending on who puts what order in and when. If you think you are going to wait for everyone to get their food and then eat at the same time, then this is not your place. But the wait staff is super helpful and nice about answering questions etc. They're great. The food is delicious but a lot of it is VERY spicy. It was almost more like sharing small plates / tapas together than it was everyone getting their own plate of tacos. We made a reservation online, checked in, but still waited about 45 minutes or so for our table on a weekday evening. It is also super loud. That was ok for several of us but a couple of us don't like very loud so that was a distraction. The drinks were great. Make sure you read what the garnish is. Mine had a lot of flowers that I found beautiful but I didn't particularly enjoy drinking but the actual drink was delish. Overall GREAT experience! And Hyde Park is wonderful. Our favorites were the Fish Tacos, Duck Tacos, and Pork Belly Tacos. The Falafel Taco will set your mouth on fire.
