Delicious Mediterranean food although more of an Americanized rather than purely authentic version. I loved my fresh falafel and Lebanese fries and the hummus and bread was good too.Fairly quick lunch service is helped through orders at the front, and food is brought to the table.
This is your place if you crave food from the Middle East. Garbanzo beans, yogurt, lots of spices, and crunchy crackers. Not much meat, but lots of beans, tomatoes, and flatbreads. Give it a go.
Good for Tallahassee (but not Great). It’s a mix of fast food with the option to dine in. You place your order at the counter, and the food is served at your table. (Tips are still greatly appreciated)I was craving lamb and asked for my (market priced lamb kabob) to be cooked medium rare. The server confirmed that it was possible and the order was placed, along with a glass of Pinot noir and a piece of the most expensive pistachio baklava I’ve ever had in my life ($4 for one PIECE!!)Minutes later, the kitchen backpedaled and said that lamb could not be cooked medium rare due to “health regulations.”. The server didn’t seem disturbed or worried at all. Also didn’t welcome the discussion for me to change my order. The well cooked lamb kabobs arrived in a timely manner, along with (an American version of a) Greek Salad and hot seasoned fries.Overall impression: was good (for Tallahassee) but not great for what they charge.…especially if you’re used to amazing Middle Eastern food.
Sahara Cafe's combination plate is so good. The lamb and beef strips are excellent with the Lebanon salad. I highly recommend this place for anyone who desires to eat Mediterranean foods.
When ordering online through their website, it stated $1.99 to upgrade my side to a Greek salad (which I thought was a bit steep, but ok). Upon arrival, I was charged $3.25 for the upgrade and was given less than a handful of salad. I mentioned it to the staff member, who simply stated they don’t make the prices. Although the falafel pita was delicious, the upgrade was not worth the price. Hopefully this will save someone from making the same mistake I did.
Update: once again things have been forgotten. Never have I ever....I have never had to consiatantly check for everything in my order more than this place. The food is great. I willing pay no matter what the increases are, and Sahara has definitely come through during this Pandora. But I'm not going to remember everytime to check the bag nor do I want to worry the employees everytime I order.Mind you none of this has stopped me from coming back to try and try again. The fact that I called and placed the order with someone. Read back to me. And there was still items missing. It's just annoying. Like chef ain't trying to give the food away.
The Sahara had changed hands since we last dined there. Now run by a Lebanese family. It's improved! We ordered the Chicken Shawarma lunch platters with double salads. One can choose two side items. The chicken was excellent and everything in the salad was fresh. There was plenty of chicken and salad. I asked to thank the chef and saw that several of the Lebanese family members were in the kitchen. Its hard to find excellent authentic ethnic food in Tallahassee. And amazingly they had jazz playing over their speaker system. We will be back.
I was recommended to try Sahara by a friend and I was not disappointed! I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Lunch with rice and hummus to go. The food is very flavorful and you get a lot for what you pay for. I will definitely return!
We got the combo with Lamb & Chicken. I got the fries and he got the cucumber & tomato salad. I’d come back here just for the scrumptious lentil soup! The homage lemonade is also really great with rose water and mint. I definitely recommend stopping by!
Service was GREAT. Very friendly. The food, however, was just so-so. Not inedible but not tasty, either. Very bland for Mediterranean. The cucumber sauce was its saving grace. If I had of rated it on food alone, it would have gotten a 2. We won’t be back.
