Very good food, nice atmosphere
Great dining experience at Sage in Tallahassee and pleasantly surprised. We visited Tally to attend an FSU Graduation, and out of the 3 restaurants that we tried, Sage Restaurant was by far the best of the 3! The 4 entrees were amazing! Onion soup was amazing, and the lamb chops, pork chop, salmon, and scallops and shrimp entrees were all incredibly delicious and demonstrated a special culinary creativity talent by the chef. Great family dinner, all of the dishes were perfect, and different as each dish was unique and creative. Thus, we enjoyed a great dining experience which is why one goes out to a restaurant. AMAZING! We are picky so for us to say this is because we truthfully loved it.
I honestly was really looking forward to this restaurant. I placed a reservation online for two on the patio. When we arrived, they seated us at a booth. We showed the confirmation about our reservation for two on the patio, the host did not really care. Once seated the server was not very polite and neglected us (probably because there were two sitting at a table for six). Once another group sat next to us, he was very attentive to them and even provided them complimentary bread, which we were not given. During the meal, the server came by to fill up my water cup but ended up overflowing it. He said "sorry" and promptly walked away. He came back a couple of minutes later to ask if everything was okay but did not bring napkins or anything to clean up the water, so it remained. At the end of it the experience and food were not really worth the price. I am sure our experience is an outlier, but I will not be recommending this restaurant.
We had dinner at Sage to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We have had many wonderful meals at Sage pre-Covid, and thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate this occasion.. we were extremely disappointed. The only positives I can think of were the server’s offer to locate a Portuguese wine for me, and the latte and coffee were good. Other than that, the raw oysters were salty, my husband’s filet was barely rare (ordered medium rare), the lobster was so tough I couldn’t even chew it completely. I had asked that they remove the tail from the shell, which they agreed to do, but it was brought in the shell and had to be sent back. It was served chilled ( which was fine) but I it was served in a gigantic bowl of ice. There was no plate on which to place the lobster so I could cut it. They were aware that we were celebrating our Golden anniversary, but there was no complimentary dessert brought to us. This is the only time in over 50 years that a restaurant did not acknowledge our milestone in any way. We left shaking our heads at just how awful the food and service were. Needless to say, we will never return
Sage has been around a long time in Tallahassee. Admittedly, we did not have dinner; just stopped in for an adult beverage. It was actually my wife's choice to stop. I don't think I have ever sat at the bar at Sage. Bartender was super cool, I got to drink a Buffalo Trace bourbon and my wife had a nice red wine. We struck up a conversation with the couple next to us, because that is what good ambience encourages. So glad we stopped in and also glad that Sage remains open. What an intimate, local, special place.
Food was ok some of it was salty. Way over priced for the amount of food and drinks were not that great. Place was boring and plain inside. Bar was nice. Our waitress was informative. I dont mind spending good money on a plate of food if the ambiance, service, and food is worth it all. Not really impressed by this place.
Just had the most tender steak in Tallahassee. Excellent flavor for the steak, mashed, haricot beets wrapped in bacon. Both my wife and I had the steaks.My mom and son jade the shrimp and scallops with a mushroom risotto. Excellent.Good for any occasion, but especially great for that special evening.Thank you for the great service.
We really enjoyed cocktails at the bar but our dinner on the back patio wasn’t what we have come to expect….no string lighting…..so the ambiance was blah as was the food. ?
Great service And very good dinner. The four of us had yummy appetizers.. love the eggplant most. Sliced pork was fabulous as a main dish and bread pudding best desert. We'll go back soon
Celebration dinner ! Could not have been better ! Food and wine was excellent . But the top notch service by our waiter completely put it over the top!! We were celebrating a graduation … the filet , wine , dessert …. All top notch !!! Excellent !!! But , Luis ? You made our night ! Your friendly , knowledgeable conversation just added to a beautiful evening and a beautiful meal . You made out meal memorable , wonderful, and my daughter and I thank you for such a fantastic experience.
