Always great place. We go here or order out at least 2 times a month. Everything is always good. Great sushi
The sushi at Hooks is reliably very good but sometimes the seating decisions are a bit frustrating. My wife and I called just after the restaurant opened to make a reservation for 2 and were told that they would only accept reservations for parties of 6 or more. We were told that we could call on our way to the restaurant which we did about an hour later. Fair enough. When we arrived at the restaurant at 6:30pm only half of the tables were seated and there were various 2 top and 4 top tables around the restaurant with "reserved" signs on the table. We were seated at a 4 top in the middle of the restaurant (almost surrounded by empty tables) and asked to move to one of the 2 top tables that were empty either along the wall or at the window. We were told this is not possible because the tables were reserved (remember, reservations are not possible for parties of less than 6). It would have been somewhat less frustrating if the reserved tables were seated while we had our meal but when we left at around 8pm only the reserved 4 top was seated and both of the 2 tops we had asked to move to were still empty (one was being seated as we left). We enjoyed the food; the gyoza, sushi rolls and nigiri were all very tasty but the seating problems made the evening a little bit less enjoyable.
Sushi was amazing , best I have had in a long time .
The service was slow on an early Monday evening (understaffed?). The waitress was friendly but did not attempt to solve a problem. I ordered the "chicken skillet" which came out like a stew (do they not understand what "skillet" means?). I asked her why my dish is not served on a skillet (and I did not mention that it's not dry or smokey). She said it was "cooked on a skillet" (which I highly doubt it). Two out of three dishes we ordered (one appetizer, two entrées) were charged higher on the check than listed on the menu. We did not bother to question them. My husband was kind enough to leave a 20% tip. I brought my dish home and don't know what to do with it because I cannot feed the dog spicy food.
Very mediocre sushi. Tried 4 different rolls and didn’t like a single one. The to-go service was good and the place is cute, but I would have rather had grocery store sushi at half the price for the taste/quality here.
We had my daughter’s 18th birthday dinner here. The staff went above and beyond for our table of 12. The food was delish as well! Our server did a great job. Wish I could remember her name!
Best Thai and Sushi in Tampa Bay for sure! Love their Red Curry, General Tso and Sushi. Always great service. We eat Thai in every city we travel to and none compare to Hook's. Keep up the good work, we'll see you every Wednesday night!
This place never lets me down. It's always fresh, always nice chunks of sushi inside the roll... The hooks sushi bar special roll was out of this world! This location has been open a long time, they have it down pat.
The sushi was fresh and tasty. The sake was warm and refreshing. Fantastic place to get sushi in St Petersburg. A+++
We ordered two take-out lunch specials online. We paid and received confirmation that the order was received both with the online ordering portal and a follow-up email. About 30 minutes after the order was placed we had driven to the restaurant to pick up our food but found out that it was never prepared. The excuse? "Oh, we're not fulfilling take-out orders today." What?! There was no warning of that in the ordering process and our credit card was charged. The restaurant was open and serving food to guests inside. No apology or offer to make our food quickly. Just a "well I can refund your money? Thanks ... seems like the VERY least you could do. We went to 9 Bangkok instead. Their lunch special includes a spring roll anyway.
