Well, the Kookaburra is certainly a most kooky place to stop! I have a couple good friends who are Australian, so when I saw that this place serves Aussie pies I knew I had to go in honor of them.Whenever my friends were stateside, one thing they always raved about was how much they missed their meat pies from back home. It felt like I walked into a part of their world being at the Kookaburra and it made me so happy. We tried the sweet potato and feta pie and I really enjoyed it. If you’re a sweet potato fan at all and don’t mind savory pies, this one’s for you. Also, the vanilla/ cinnamon latte I got to drink was fantastic. They do also have a bathroom, but you have to ask a worker for a key. This is a super cute and convenient stop in downtown St. Augustine and can be the perfect way to beat the heat and take a yummy break for a little bit. I’m not entirely sure just how authentic the Aussie pies here are (if only one of my friends from down unda could have tried), but this American palette sure did enjoy it!
As a self-proclaimed lover of all things food, I could not walk by the Kookaburra Coffee without stopping by. It was around 5 pm, and I was in the mood for a small snack. I can never pass up a homemade meat pie, I ordered one traditional and one Thai chicken curry meat pie. To my surprise, they were half off the regular price! All baked goods after 4pm are half off, what a wonderful deal! The recipe has been in the owner’s family for a very long time. The dough is flaky, the filling is well balanced with loads of flavor. The Thai chicken curry had lovely white and dark meat, along with a plethora of veggies. The traditional meat pie was a soy incredible with a nice tomato sauce. All in all, I wish I took more home with me. I could eat these on a daily basis. Will definitely return when we’re back in town.
This place was super cute and not terribly priced although they didn't seem to have any signs with prices so you kinda just have to trust it'll be worth the price. The frozen Alaskan got chocolate was awesome. The seating area in a separate little place is a nice thing too.
Blackberry scones look amazing. Lavender Latte so good
Oh My! I had an iced Mocha Coconut coffee and it was SO good! I would and will visit again if I’m back in St.Augustine! You gotta try it out!
I was overly optimistic when I saw that this place had Aussie Pies. I have traveled to Australia numerous times. Brisbane, Gladstone, Gold Coast, Rockhampton and Townsville are all beautiful places with great food, to include, meat pies. Unfortunately, when i was handed the meat pie, the dough was extremely rubbery and the filling was in a little ball, in a less than filled pie. This was as Australian as the Out%@$& Restaurant. I was going to say something to the gentlemen that sold it to me, however, he was gone when I returned to the counter. I did not even attempt to taste it as it had no smell either. However, my wife did very much enjoy her Iced Green Goddess drink. The staff was also pleasant.
LOOOVE this coffee! The place is really tiny, but they offer another section after you get your order that you can go and sit in to enjoy. The location is perfect, right on the edge of all of the action in St. Augustine. Hoping that they expand into Jax more so I can get a daily fix of their Honey Badger drink.
The Kookaburra is my favorite coffee shop. Ever. I live an hour and a half away and make sure I stop in every time we’re in St Augustine. I’ve been to all the locations. They are the only independent coffee shop that I’ve found that will make all their drinks in a decaf version which I love! My favorite are the Honey Badger and the Mocha Nut. I’ve had their baked goods and they are all good as well.
We stopped in for a quick lunch option. This was cost affective and filling. Cute place to try something new!
Great location! Flavor of coffee okay with lingering after taste. Curry veggie pie was delicious snack while walking the town. Love the name and vibe. Thank you Kookaburra :)
