I took my husband for his birthday. The food was very good, however, the most enjoyable was the amazing piano music played by Jeremy! We enjoyed it so and together with the ambience it created a very memorable lunch for us both. Our server, Sarah, was also terrific and paid great attention to our needs. I strongly suggest a visit especially if Jeremy is playing the piano!
We made reservations the day we planned to have lunch and had no issues. The menu was a bit pricey for what you get, but I guess you’re paying more for ambiance than anything else. The setting is spectacular and the pianist was a nice, elegant touch. I had the roast beef panini with kettle chips and definitely get lemon with water as it has a strong sulfuric taste. The hummus appetizer was cold and refreshing after a hot morning on the trolley.
During research for our St. Augustine trip, I discovered that several high-profile restaurants in town had received less than stellar health scores during the last couple of years. I realize that the pandemic wreaked havoc with staff and business operations, but I was disturbed by more recent inspections that still had issues. Café Alcazar was one of these restaurants, but having been a competitive swimmer in my youth, I couldn’t pass up the chance to eat lunch in the deep end of an indoor pool! The café is only open for lunch and the seating area is fairly small, so I would definitely make reservations if you are interested in dining there. To start out, hubby decided on the Goose Island IPA and I chose a split of J.P. Chenet Sparkling Brut for our anniversary toast. The menu is somewhat limited, but for lunch it was fine. I decided on a ½ roast beef sandwich with mushroom soup and hubby ordered the Alcazar Club with kettle chips. The meal was good, although the soup was not as thick as I like, and the service started out a little slow. We initially had to sit longer than I would have liked before being greeted by our server, but after that the service was fine. Eating in a pool is not an opportunity available every day, and I was glad we tried it, even though I was a somewhat reluctant due to the previous health inspections.
Sean GM and chef.. Fantastic! Food. Atmosphere fantastic. Tryed 4 differ dishes. All great. Best greek dressing i have ever had. Please try the no flour chocolate cake... To die for!! History as well in the building. Your eating in the old swimming pool. So unique!!
My wife and I just had lunch here when visiting the Lightner Museum. We didn't make reservations as it was early on a Tuesday and we were the only ones dining there for most of our visit. The soup of the day was mushroom soup, which was very good, as were the sandwiches we ordered. The only negative was that they do not filter their water so it has the weird local water taste, which made my iced tea taste peculiar. I would recommend this place if you want a good meal in an interesting location.
The setting alone in the deep end of the former Hotel Alcazar pool is amazing! To sit and enjoy lunch thinking about all the people who walked these hall and the activities that took place over the years since 1888 is magical. Our waitress Sara was friendly and provided excellent service. Our meals were excellent. The background guitar music was the icing on the cake!
I ordered the tomato bisque soup plus salad combo. The soup was grainy and didn't taste quite right. I ate only a small portion of it and asked to take the rest home. I was with a group and didn't want to make a big deal of it. I became sick - nauseous and horrid body and head aches, the usual lower GI problems - for about a day. My boyfriend tasted it and said it was in his opinion not edible and he couldn't eat it either! I threw it out but kept the take home container. Called the restaurant - spoke with manager Mattie. I was expecting either a refund for my lunch that made me sick - or - an offer of another item on the menu as replacement. she said she wasn't authorized to help me - even though the Alcazar Cafe lunch made me ill. This is terrible customer service and wanted to alert the public.
What a beautiful place to have lunch! The ambiance is amazing. A beautiful piano playing a simple but good menu with excellent service from our waiter Allen
Delicious soup! The atmosphere is very nice; live piano while we dined. Our waitress was great.
A converted pool into a cafe. On the back of Alcazar museum.a hidden treasure. Go there for food not found in other places. Clean. Detail to service and food quality is superb.
