Seafood eatery with moderate chic setting and lighting while awkward teen waitstaff run around in dirty black jogger sweats and Adidas. A bit of a bipolar look/feel. If you sit next to the host stand, you will be treated by watching the fluffy/fuzzy headed host scratch his scalp and pop a zit. (Yes, that actually happened.) APPETIZER CALAMARI - perfectly tender, light crunch, light batter. Perfect! KEY WEST FISH SANDWICH - it had a thick meaty piece of fried fish. When tasted alone, the fish was good but bland. Juicy, flakey, light. It wanted to be tastey, but didn't have salt to drive the flavor. Would've been passable alone, but it was completely lost in the sandwich. Each bite of sandwich tasted of bread, tomato, and mystery patty (because no fish fillet flavor came through). It comes with tartar sauce which I began adding, but then the entire sandwich was overtaken by the sauce. This was a delicious looking sandwich but the elements didn't work together as a whole. BANG LOBSTER BLT - Same problem as before. It tasted of burned bacon and bread. Could have anykind of meat in there. Who knows when you can't taste it. They need to work on how to get seafood to come through on a sandwich. This is admittedly challenging. The keys lie in enhancing the seafood with seasonings and selecting breads/condiments that do not compete for center stage.
I went to Madfish grill for lunch today. I ordered Madfish Tacos with Crispy Chicken. I also ordered the Drunken Lobster Bisque. The food was average. The atmosphere was pretty boring. Service was great so the waitress received a great tip. This restaurant is average overall. Not what I expected.
We all loved our dinner here. The vibes are like a dedicated owner puts his soul into the fresh ingredients, flavorful menu, and caring staff. Bring your appetite for the generous portions. Most of our group was tempted by the fresh catch prepared any way specials and we were very happy with our choices. The waiter did a great job of warmly recommending his favorites. We will be back regularly.
Amazing menu and the food was delicious! I had a really hard time deciding what to get. Some restaurants try too hard to have a unique menu, but Madfish knocks it out of the park! The cuban salad rivals The Columbia's 1905. Every bit as good. The Bang Shrimp bowl was excellent with the perfect amount of spice. My husband had the lobster BLT and could only eat half it was so big. Our server Sonic was attentive and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the trip to Sarasota from Ft. Myers!
There’s literally not a better place or staff in Sarasota. Everyone that works there is amazing and the food is always on point! You won’t be disappointed with Madfish girl!
Great food! excellent service!
Excellent food and service! The Mediterranean Shrimp and Short rib specials are fantastic!
Decided to give it a try at lunch, as I have been past it so many times en route to Home Depot! I sat outside on the covered porch - service was prompt and food was really great (grilled salmon, good portion on a baby kale salad) - I couldn’t fault it. At $24 it’s a decent price in todays inflationary world. I’ll be back. One suggestion - get your deck and the tables and chairs on it pressure washed - it’s a bit sticky and in need of a freshen up.
Came here w my mom tonight. Nice happy hour. Food and service was great, too. We were seated and taken good care of. The waitress was friendly and attentive.
This is a great local place with very tasty food. The lobster blt sandwich and the salad with the flash fried yucca were awesome. Don't forget to try the fresh squeezed lemonade.
