Black Bear Bread co & StumpTown Coffee Roasters …was an incredible find. Beautiful pastries, breads and sandwiches. We were looking for a quick breakfast. We found an incredible assortment of boutique quality foods and a staff who treated us warmly and with a smile. We enjoyed the breakfast sandwich special with Gruyère cheese, ham, greens and French bread as well as too many pastries to note. You will love the atmosphere and even more so the food. Bon Appetite ?Ok we came back for breakfast the next day and yes! Black Bear Bread Co did not disappoint. I had a wonderful French bread, fresh strawberries, blueberries, candied pecans and assorted dried fruits with nuts topped with honey breakfast. Yes I was happily satisfied and if I were a bear I would come out of hibernation for this? Bon appetite!

Fun little spot with outdoor seating. Food was pretty good not amazing. I was excited for good coffee as they had all the right equipment but they don’t have trained baristas - not good coffee even when you ask with tight instructions. Failed on a flat white.

Delightful spot for some brunchy goodness. The Danish and Benton bacon sandwich were both fantastic. Buttery, flaky, and full of flavor. I especially loved the bites of of the sandwich where I'd get a bit of all the layers together. Fantastic. The service was also great! There was a miscommunication about some sandwiches and they were quick to make the correction and get us the right order; but even if we had gotten the wrong thing, it would no doubt have been delicious.

Phenomenal French Toast...flavorful and almost custard like...best I have ever had! Delicious latte with lavender to compliment. This is definitely someplace special.

We love Black Bear and live very close so of course we visit often but this last experience at the Grand Blvd location was very disappointing. I had order to much to carry all to the car by myself so I told the lady I was going to leave the # they handed to me at the register on the counter and carry the pastry bags and first set of hot coffee drinks too the car and come back for the last two iced drinks. She said that would be fine. (They we’re almost done) No big deal right? Well I walked back in to grab the drinks and another co worker or manager not sure. She’s been there a long time. She literally looks at me with an annoyed smirk and asks if I can wait outside… like they forgot in the 30 seconds I was gone and didn’t even give me time to barely respond. I told her I was waiting on the drinks (that were sitting ready) and told her they had already given me the other part of my order and she asked me to wait outside??? I just needed to grab them. She said they ask everyone to wait outside and they will bring it. Yes, they do that’s not new. But I already had asked them to hold them for a second so I could carry everything to the car. Ridiculous! There was no one in the area either so it’s not like it was crowded or I was in anyones way for the quick second. Maybe next time Know what is going on and don’t be so quick to make a customer fill like your kicking them out.. I barely said a word maybe I should have just spoken up. Disappointing for sure.

This would be a 5 star if only…….My family and I have been coming here for our morning coffee and pastries for awhile. Love this place but I need to start my day with a cup of coffee early. The 6:00 opening was perfect for me and the many others I saw at that time. Why did you change the lopening to 7 ( 30 minutes later than your friendly competitor Amavita I might add). Your sourdough bread and pastries are the best, but can you at least open at 6:30 so you don’t lose my families morning coffee and pastry business

Saturday, 7:50 AM.I can only speak to take-out, or as Black Bear employees like to call it, "in a bag." The ordering process is somewhat pretentious and tedious, requiring a receipt'n-name that makes you wait, even though the bagels are "to-go," and within arms reach (as is most everything in this tiny space). Dine-in customers appear to fare better, receiving their loaves and croissants across the counter almost instantly. Multiple pre-to-post pubescent staff scurry back and forth but can't seem to make the connection between you and your clear-and-present bagels, and their T-Rex arms. As for the dough, "Everything Bagels" are decent, but far too heavily salted (coming from a guy who loves salt!) The dough itself puffs-up nicely to the heartier side when toasted, and is good - not great - but good. I've had their loaves before, and they're also pretty decent, but again, not great, especially considering the price point. All in all, it seems that you're paying a hefty price for a "name," a sub-par ordering routine, and baked goods that only appear to rise just a notch or two above average.(*Expect lines starting around 8AM on weekends).

Excellent! Great selection for breakfast cookies and sandwiches!

wow, what a great place to grab some breakfast. It was across the street from the residence Inn where we were staying. First of all they serve Stumptown coffee which is awesome. Some of the best coffee we’ve had in the entire area. They also have breakfast sandwiches, bagels in the best avocado toast in town. I got a power bowl with eggs, sweet potatoes, chickpeas and quinoa and it was so good.

This a totally cool, upscale tapas style bar with amazing service, food (oysters - wow) and ambience.
