I'm glad we tried this place. It's a nice piece of old school Florida in a modern beach town. Got the fish dip and beers while waiting for our carry out.The fish dip was mild and kind of sweet. It went well with crackers and hot sauce and cold beer.I would not get the mullet again. It was very fishy to me. At least I can say I tried it. The mahi mahi was good, no fishy taste and a touch sweet. The salmon was my favorite. It just seemed to go with the smoke flavor better.I also got a side of the hot German potato salad and it was amazing. Had bacon and bits of onion in it. Not too be damning the fish with faint praise but in my opinion this was the best thing we got there.
I love the TV programme as per the title. Sadly the TV show didn’t live up to reality. I’d call it a DIVE. First off I get it’s traditional but you also need to move with times. There was no accessible toilet/restroom or accessible seating. There was no WiFi either. When I asked I nearly had my head bitten off. The staff are not welcoming. When I chose a seat I was told I’d be in the way in my wheelchair. I brought my income to spend in your establishment. Help me help you. Then when we went round the other side and moved a few tables no help was offered. The fish was dry. It was expensive. The potato salad was bland. The best bit was the horseradish dressing. Like others we were told about cash several times. The owner should consider risk of staff and customers. I guess if you are a robber head there at 18:30 (near closing time) to find two mature rude ladies with a till full of tourist cash. Easy get away too on a Highway. The place is asking for trouble. It’s a dive. I had a better meal in red lobster.
The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I’ve ever seen!!! I ordered the mahi mahi and it had SIX bones in half a pound of fish. The manager came out and instead of apologizing argued with us. I’ve been eating mahi mahi for 27 years and never found a bone in that fish. I found six bones in theirs. He made it seemed like we were trying to get a free meal, not what we wanted… I can’t believe a place has been open 70 year with poor customer service like that. Just glad I didn’t break my tooth or choke on their fish.
We were told about this place and wanted to try the smoked fish. The reviews said icy cold beer not so and outdoor seating on picnic tables. This did not bother me but sitting next to the highway did. The salmon was so so. I like mine better but that maybe a matter of taste. The waitress was not nice. We were told that we had to order food to have a beer while we waited for takeout! So we ordered lunch. We also ordered the take out that we wanted. Meanwhile there was a sign that you could order takeout from the bar. This is a cash only place which we knew but the waitress made sure we did! So much about the experience not good The potato salad and the fish spread was good. If we go back I would get the fish spread and the potato salad only! And take out for sure!
I think if we didn’t live in the era where everybody has a smoker in their backyard I would have liked this place more. The smoke on the fish was much tamer than I prefer and the cut of the fish they use is quite bony and a challenge to eat. Was still decent though, but just not as good maybe as I’ve had elsewhere. The burger was surprisingly tasty though, so I’d be more inclined to go back for that. Service was fast and staff were friendly, so that helped the overall experience.
I stopped by this Florida favorite on my recent visit to St. Pete and was not disappointed. The smoked salmon was outstanding and the smoked seafood spread was excellent too. Nice, friendly staff. Love this place.
I’ve been coming to Ted Peters for well over 20 years and my God is it delicious . They are well known for their famous smoked fish , however if you’ve eaten one of their burgers you’ve probably never dared venturing past them. Hands down easily the best cheeseburger in all of the Bay Area. The Patties are fresh and seasoned well with cheese melting perfectly on top. Comes with a thick slice of tomato , white onion and lettuce. I add mayo and it’s perfect. The fish spread is always delicious and made fresh daily. I recommend getting a pint to go!If you’re here , you MUST get root beer in a frozen mug. It will be the best you’ve ever had. ******Don’t forget to stop at the ATM on your way , Ted Peters is cash only *******
We went this past Saturday morning, they open directly at 11:30 and there is already a line of people. The smoke smell is amazing and the waitstaff couldn't have been more friendlier! We got the smoked fish dip and some German potato salad. The potato wasn't my cup of tea but the smoked fish dip... MAAAANN...ID PUT DAT ON A CRACKA DUUUDE!!!!! SOOOO GOOOOD!!!!!
Great smoked fish bread and the smoked salmon is the best smoked fish I've ever had. It's picnic tables and napkins and eating outside so be prepared for that. They've been smoking fish there for like a hundred years or something. I probably been there 50 times and it's the same every time. I'm telling you you're lucky to get their smoked fish if they don't run out. The funny thing is is that they treat you like your lucky to be there as well. It's funny but you get used to it. I guess when you have smoked fish that's as good as theirs that you can act any way you want when you're serving it. I love all the servers there. Even the super cranky ones ?
Fifty years ago my parents would take me there for lunch as we lived in St. Pete. Back then it was both a locals and tourist place to go and was quite good. Haven't been there in years so my husband and I decided to go there today. Based on the quality and quantity of food, the prices and still not taking credit cards, it has now become more of a high priced, turn over the tables as quick as they can, tourist place than what an olde style Florida restaurant should be. As a local, don't think we will return. There are better places (both food and prices) along the beach as well as in town to choose from.
