We have been frequenting Harold Seltzer’s for over fifteen years and most of the time our experiences were good although there were a few not so good, like the time my prime rib tasted like corn-beef. However, this past Mother's Day experience was the “Coup de grace” for us. On May 6th, I received an email advertisement about HS’s Surf-n-Turf special for $27.99. I immediately called and made reservations for my wife, sister-in-law and myself for Mother’s Day. When we arrived, we were seated at 1:45 PM. We ordered our drinks and a Wild Onion Rose as an appetizer. Next we asked for the Surf-n-Turf and was informed by the waitress, Lia, that “specials” could not be ordered on holidays. I explained to her and showed her the email showing the special and on the very same page, “Make your Mother’s Day Reservation Today”. I showed her that there was no place that mentioned about no S & T on Mother’s Day. Lia was very polite but insistent that it was not available. After talking to a manager (didn’t get her name) to no avail (she insisted her “boss” said “no”), we decided to order our entrees. My wife ordered a steak with a 4 oz. lobster tail for $14.99 as an extra. After waiting another 20 minutes, I enquired about our appetizer. I repeated this for another 20 minutes. Finally, our salads came out at about 2:30. Ten minutes later our appetizer came out. At about 2:45 our entrees came out, minus the lobster tail, which the waiter said was being cooked. At about 3:10 the lobster tail finally came out. We had already finished our entrees. There seemed to be plenty of servers, but they appeared to be inexperienced and confused. Lia did a good job for what she could do, since the food was not prepared timely. The manager did try to compensate by giving us free desserts and credit for the appetizer. The food was good, but I still don’t get it. We got about $20 in dessert for not honoring a special which cost $3 ea less then menu price. Go Figure! Instead of being a very special dinner for my wife, it turned out to be a very frustrating and disappointing experience. I think the management needs to get their act together.
First time here while we were on vacation and if we ever go back down, we will definitely eat here again! The service was great! Our waitress was very friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu and what to recommend! The bread and croutons were delicious! The food was fantastic!! The steaks cooked just perfectly with just the right seasoning! The sides were great also! Highly recommend this place!!
Arrived at a busy time but were seated immediately. Ordered sirloin steak and NY strip steak. Bread and croutons warm and delicious. House salad was excellent. Baked potato was barely warm and seemed to be somewhat dried out. Server Jen was not very attentive and usually unavailable. The NY strip steak was medium rare as ordered but so tough that I was struggling to cut it. My wife's sirloin was quite tender and cooked properly to a medium rare. Complained about the NY strip and manager Cecelia was understanding and helpful. Overall experience was disappointing and service needs improvement. For a restaurant that specializes in steak, this was not what I expect. I still tipped more than the adjusted check but am reluctant to reward less than exemplary service.
Have been to the restaurant many times. Last night one bartender left the building after sitting at the bar eating Easter candy. The second bartender was waiting on tables around the bar. My husband had to ask for a drink after there had been no service at the bar for at least 10 minutes. We told the bartender we were ready to order, after a few minutes she came over to take our order. My husband ordered the early bird steak we were told it was too late, early bird ended at 4:30, it was 4:40 and we had been there since approximately 3:45. We decided to leave and said we won't be back. We were told the kitchen would not accept the order. The first bartender, who finally had come back to work, said "Good please don't come bac. we don't want people like you in here." The simple solution would have been to ask the manager to make an exception like most places do if you have been there awhile.
We were highly looking forward to this as it was our last night in St. Pete and we wanted a nice place for an Easter Dinner. We even made reservations. Things with our waiter started good, but turns out he forgot to put our order in. We were then rushed because we had reservations for a nighttime kayak tour. When the food came, one of our parties order never came. So again, that steak was rushed. Looked like it went through the microwave. Steaks just were not tasty. I’m sure this would have been a nice place to eat if our food was not rushed. When we got the bill, it wasn’t even close to accurate. Some things left off, things added, but we just paid without trying to fix. Things were already very messy.
Great service and food. Made my Birthday a special one.
Hunter K was great! Dinners were excellent with blackened salmon and 6oz tenderloins. Cooked perfectly. Place was not busy and made it less complicated. They do like their A/C on….. Been going there for 25 years and this time was best yet, celebrating my father in law’s 97th. A WWII veteran from that infamous day! Thinks he’s 75 (and can agree)!
4.5 Stars. Excellent place for Carnivores. We had Filet Mignon & Prime Rib. Every meals was cooked perfectly. You get large Fresh Garlic Bread, homemade Croutons, side plus Entree. The salads are large, the dressings homemade by Seltzer's. Salad is enormous so pace yourself. It's easy to fill up on bread & salad.Interior reminded me of an old-time Supper Club: polished dark wood, paintings, beautiful bar. Large Servings.Relatively speaking, meals are very reasonable, especially considering how much bread and salad they provide.Recommend.
Posted a negative post on their recent $3 price increase of prime rib on FB and was dissed for my post. Told them it was not cool to pissoff a long time customer. Have not returned...
