The hostess was very friendly and greeted us quickly, having us seat ourselves. It took a few minutes for the waitress to come around, but she was very attentive and quick with drink refills and taking the order. We arrived at 6:15 on a Wednesday, and there were plenty of tables open. The food was delicious and served at good temperatures. The inside of the restaurant was a little crowded and sightly difficult to walk in.
We have been here several times and really enjoy the food and service. Tonight our waitress was Sabrina and she was very knowledgeable and helpful, did a great job, and was very friendly and professional as well. The atmosphere is really nice and everyone is very pleasant. This is a really nice place to spend time at and the Sunday sushi specials are fantastic. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We went, first timers, for a sushi dinner. Ordered a "boat" for two. Having lived in the upper Keys for decades, I am spoiled by the freshest seafood and 4 great sushi restaurants in close proximity. Never have I been offered choices of what fish or rolls are in each item of the "boat". Tonbo nailed it. We went early on a Friday and I'm glad we did. It got busy fast. The service was spot on, friendly and patient waitress, seated immediately, things came out in the right order, and yes, it was very fresh and just about the limit of what two of us could eat! Prices are comparable or a bit better than typical. Can't wait to try the hibachi. At about a mile from home, this could be habit-forming.
Excellent food staff is awesome
Great place for some good hibachi
Once you get past how inept, unhelpful and clueless the front end staff is, the food was great. It was valentines day and while I understand it gets busy, this is why you need a host/front end staff who can handle it and know how to communicate with the customers. I almost left over this but kept hearing positive things from customers who had been there before so I stayed. They even said that once you get past the bad service at the front its totally worth it. They were right. Maybe I'll come back for my birthday, the food is really very good ! ?
We've tried a few other Hibachi places in the area over the years, and we always end up back at Tonbo. They have so many amazing sushi options, it's hard to choose which to get each time. Hibachi side is better food, in our opinion. Everyone keeps mentioning Jay, and there's good reason. He's hilarious and the best cook there. We eat here as a relationship tradition and always have the best time.
Hands down my favorite hibachi grille EVER!!!! We have had the pleasure of visiting with Maui being our chef, and he is THE BEST! We have not gone to any other hibachi grilles since being introduced to Maui 4 years ago. He is very entertaining, personable, and the food is simply outstanding. Highly recommend! Every group of friends we brought has been very impressed.
My go-to sushi spot. Their happy hour specials are delicious and cheap. It even extends into the weekend. You can't go wrong with their hibachi or sushi. Their sake selection is pretty awesome as well. It can get a bit crowded, so make a reservation just in case otherwise you might end up having to wait up to an hour.
Got carryout and the rice tasted like it might have gone bad, the sirloin tasted like hamburger meat. The best part was the California Roll, which was mediocre with the warm yum yum sauce. If it was more reasonably priced it wouldn't be quite as upsetting.
