Came in today with my son, and sat outside on the patio. Hoping to see some plane traffic, but not much going on. We each got a sandwich. Not too bad. Not very busy at the time we came. Nice area. Best part, out waitress, Stephanie, made us feel welcomed, had our food out quick, and never had to wait for our drinks to be refilled. Very nice, and pleasant.
The restaurant is right on the runway in this fly-in community. We sat outside for breakfast on a Wednesday morning and enjoyed watching all the planes. Fun atmosphere to have a meal. The wait staff were awesome. We were greeted right away and our orders were promptly taken. Everyone was friendly and helpful since this was our first trip to the area. For breakfast I would highly recommend their pancakes. So good! One pancake is more than enough, these are huge! We returned for lunch and dinner on a couple other occasions. The food and staff were just as awesome at those times as well. Their pizza is a New York style and quite delicious.
I realize the US is short staffed. I get it. But I have been here plenty of times during the pandemic when I lived in South Daytona and haven't had the issues I had today. I fly in here almost every weekend, as I recently moved to Melbourne now and find the convenience worth the trip. But I waited almost an hour for my breakfast to come. I ordered a pancake and coffee. Were they busy? Yes. The server was fine. But I feel if you're that short staffed, tell people before they sit. She told me it would be an extra couple minutes. Not her fault I'm assuming, but management needs to really make sure they know what is being said. Hell, bring out some biscuits to satisfy patiently waiting customers. Again, this place is convenient for pilots like myself who don't live here anymore, but still frequent the area. But, they really need to work on communicating so that we aren't waiting an hour for a pancake.
Great place for lunch! Fast, friendly service. Our party of 4 was seated quickly and the food was awesome; wraps, tuna melt, salads, burgers and more were all fresh and delicious. Will be back!
First time here at the downwind cafe!! What a cool lunch experience. Eating and planes just taking off. Very cool concept. Our waiter Arthur was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the menu and made some excellent suggestions. We live an hour away but come out this way often. We will be back for sure!
Once again, Downwind Cafe' was amazing. I don't just come here to have the delicious food, also, to watch my son's eyes light up when the airplanes take off. It's a wonderful little hidden gem right here in Port Orange!

Such an amazing restaurant!! Great food and even greater service! Stephanie was amazing! So was Kylie! Such sweethearts! Mimosas are heavenly. Pizza is delicious. Breakfast is delicious as well!! Definitely pay a visit to this place !
Super Sunday breakfast, eggs Benedict with hash browns and coffee a pilots breakfast well worth the trip a bit lite on decor but over all a solid 4 highly recommended for a fly in breakfast!
Great comfort food and fair prices. Nice staff, clean and relaxing place. Go here for breakfast, you will not be disappointed.
