I'm on the road traveling and was craving Chinese food. I checked TripAdvisor and Yelp and Golden China had good reviews, so I decided to give them a try. The restaurant was near empty - 4 other diners - but they were doing a brisk number of take-out orders. As was explained, the snow birds have departed for parts north and the locals will be returning in the next week or so, like monarch butterflies returning home. I ordered the small wonton soup. I judge a soup by the broth. Which in this case was very good. It actually had flavor to it. Three small wontons and a small sprinkling of scallions. Wontons tasted fine - a little on the firm side. Next was the shrimp egg roll. The shell was a bit thick, and not too soft, but it tasted okay. Not sure I'd get that again. Now...I'll admit upfront that I'm a Chinese restaurant's nightmare when it comes to my favorite dish that I order pretty much every time I have Chinese food - special fried rice. I don't like white onions, so I ask for scallions instead. And I'm not a fan of peas or cooked carrots, so leave those out. And I like cabbage and bean sprouts added. Well, that's a true test of a restaurant in my opinion. Do they get that all right, without cursing emanating from the kitchen, or do they say, "this is how we make it, like it or not!" I apologized to my waitress for my complicated order, but her response was, "I have plenty of ink!" And to their credit, they got the order perfectly correct. So, good food, very friendly/welcoming staff, clean restaurant...what more could you ask for?!
I had the Moo Goo Gai Pan /chicken on Tuesday evening and it was fantastic and I have to say that the Egg Roll was the best I think I have ever had it was different from past meals there so I'm hoping it is something new and will continue using that same recipe for the egg rolls. I probably go there about every 10 days or so and have enjoyed there fresh vegetables and chicken dishes!
Loved this place!!!! Would've gave more star's if I could have. First time there and the food was excellent?!!! For the Lunch special My husband had General Tso's chicken with fried rice. I had the fried chicken wings with white rice. And our daughter had the bourbon chicken with fried rice when I tell you it was all on point wow?. Will most definitely be visting AGAIN!!!
This place is fantastic! We came early to avoid the crowd's we've seen. Sat ourselves and were promptly greeted with menus. We ordered Gen Tsoe, shredded pork Sichuan style, and sweet and sour chicken. We were taken by how crispy the chicken products were and now realize Gen Tsoe should not be chewy! Egg rolls were excellent as was all the food! Server was great. We had plenty to take home. We'll be back!
First time, dined in. Place is very cute and clean. Luncheon specials reasonably priced and plenty of food. Sesame chicken and Beef with vegtables were hot, fresh and delicious. Staff great.

I ordered over $60 worth of food from Golden China the day after Christmas and it was the worst food I’ve ever had. All the food tasted old, stale and expired. I’ve ordered from this place many times and food is usually pretty good. I got home and after tasting the food I could tell it was old and expired. It tasted like old food they had saved before closing for Christmas. The wings looked like they had been cooked in old oil. I threw the food in the trash and made contact with the manger who told me to bring the old food back. So I went to my trash and bagged the old food, so I could return it to them. The next day, I got to the store and the manager spoke to me as if I was just trying to get free food despite the fact they sold me old spoiled food. She opened the bag of stale food (very unsanitary) and counted how many wings were in the bag. She also told me I ate some of the rice, so she’ll give me a small. I didn’t eat much, and it’s hard collect rice grains after they’ve been thrown in the trash. It was a bit tasteless and rude in my opinion. I will never eat at Golden China nor any other Chinese food place.
I couldn't find a Chinese place in Port Charlotte that has uniformly good reviews,, so tried this place. We had the lunch specials which are under $9. It included 2 small fried spring rolls and pork fried rice. Neither of those were particularly flavorful, but both the General Tsos and and the Mongolian beef were good. The food came out piping hot and there was plenty of it. They also serve beer. We ate in and the service was attentive. It was good basic Chinese and I would give it another try. Comparable to Chinese food in Minnesota for what it's worth.
