I Made a reservation on line for 4 people. When a friend called and wanted to join us for lunch I called the restaurant and asked to have the reservation Modified to 5 people. I was shocked when the person that answered the phone said she would have to check with the manager. After all, I was just asking to have one person added and I have been to this restaurant dozens and dozens of times and most of the tables designed for 4, can easily accommodate 5 people. I was even more shocked when she came back and said the manager said no. I asked to speak to the manager and I can only say that the person that came to the phone and said she was the manager, has no business being in the service industry. I told her I was flexible, whether it was inside or outside and I was even flexible if the time needed to be adjusted. She said, it didn’t matter, they were no longer seating any party larger than 4 as they were only catering to small groups. Against my better judgement, 4 of us went for lunch and while the food was good (as usual), the people at this restaurant are rigid and allow policy (which should be a guideline) to control everything. Example, I asked for a double sized house salad (completely understanding, I would be charged double the prices). I was told “we have no way to charge me for that”. I said just charge me double or charge me twice. I was then told it was against policy, they could not do that. I said ok, I will have 2 house salads and a lager dinner plate. They actually brought me two salads, in 2 separate bowls and a large plate. I put the two salads on the plate and handed the server the 2 empty bowls. How does it make any sense that you tell the customer no, then create more work for yourself as you have now tripled the amount of dishes that have to be washed. Absolutely in credible! Sorry to inform Houston management, the consultants that did the research that management has decided to trust or whoever the rocket scientist is who is making these incredibly incompetent decisions, but they are not customer centric and they make absolutely no sense. News flash, these are the types of decisions that put, what once were even very successful businesses, out of business. Customers are smart and I hope they start walking with their feet and their wallets. There are plenty of new, very good restaurants in Pompano. The Beach House, Oceonic to name only 2. Has Houston’s ever even considered that there are plenty of families of 5 and if you are intentionally trying to keep families with children away, there are plenty of all adult families of 5 or more. In fact, my 2 Brothers and 2 sisters can no longer eat at Houston’s and we are all seniors. Shame on Houston’s if this is a corporate policy, shame on the Manager if this is a management decision. I hope the residence of Pompano stand up against this lunacy and I hope that the media also pick this story up and runs with it.
Loved the location. The staff was very attentive, helpful and all with a great smile! We had the Rib-eye and salad! Lots of good food. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The steak came cooked just as I ordered, with real mashed potatoes! And a nice brownie dessert! We sat out on the covered porch, and the view along the river was spectacular! Great for family and friends! More than enough food, for a good price !
Ambiance, service & tastes! Everything was awesome! One of our favorites! Apple cobbler was the best I’ve ever had! GM is an asset to this establishment! (Forgot her name, begins with N) She was delightful! Definitely recommend it!
This Houston's is so wonderful, from the moment you are sweetly greeted by the kind and friendly hostesses, to the very polite and helpful servers. Last night I was there and as always, my food was excellent, and service was perfect! I eat here often, as even though it is busy with customers coming in and out, there is a peacefulness eating near the Intracoastal and watching boats go by. The servers I have had are all 5 star! The staff and management go out of their way to make you feel welcome here. My family and friends enjoy it here as I do. It was a wonderful Anniversary dinner! They serve THE BEST HOT FUDGE SUNDAES of any where in Florida! A great ending to a lovely dinner! Thank you all for making it so special!
Love Houston's! They have excellent food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere. I've been going to Houston's in New York for a number of years, and also here in Florida, and they're always very good. I would recommend also trying the locations in Bal Harbor, and Aventura⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Food⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Location⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ValueThe only thing that I would say is that they need more staff, but that goes for every place these days. One thing I do appreciate however, is that they did not fill up all the tables and then go short on service. They've tried to keep the right ratio of tables available to the number of servers and the chefs in the back. That keeps the service and quality levels high, even though they're operating at a reduced capacity.
Had my first date w my husband 26 years ago today, so we always go on may 3rd.Same fabulous atmosphere and service and the most delicious drinks and food. Had a NY strip that was as tender as a filet, w yummy mashed and broccoli. Les had a great hamburger w french fries and a side of the best creamed corn, finished w a delicious brownie w vanilla ice cream.Everything was wonderful, including our server, Tatiana.A lovely evening ☺ ?
Looking forward to an upscale meal during our annual visit. Houston’s usually has come through but not going again. Horrible service with untrained, inexperienced staff. Before Houston’s requires a dress code they should really train and support staff that are worthy of a dress code; not just throw anyone on the floor.

Our favourite place to eat when we travel to Florida in the past was Houston’s at Pompano Beach but this was our first time coming since Covid. We were all excited. We made sure to get there early. We were a party of 6 which included 2 children. When we went to get on wait list we were told they don’t accept parties of more than 4. Not even inside the restaurant. But we wanted to eat there so badly we agreed we would just split up our party and sit at 2 different tables. They then told us that we weren’t allowed to do that either even though we were fine with being split up. Made no sense at all. Will not be going back to this location at least !!! What restaurant does this ?!
Houston’s what has happened to you and it isn’t even this location. Good quality has gone downhill and service has waned. We sat down for lunch and it seemed as if the typical pace of a Houston’s lunch was way off. More chips for the cold spin dip took minutes. Drinks delivered to the wrong table, my ribs cold and dry. The fry seasoning is a terrible excuse for terrible fries. Ordered the brownie for desert. Subbing fruits for chocolate? Raisins? I mean I know inflation is up but when there is more bread then burger for $20 you need to draw the line. Go for the drinks and view, skip the meal. J. Alexanders is crushing you.
