Another place that is literally within walking distance, and this is the first time in almost 20 years of living here that I actually eat inside Mike's. Let me start off by saying that the name completely misrepresents this place. I have not visited before because I was expecting to find "Mike" slinging sushi. Well, this is so far from reality that now, I'm embarrased. This place is legit! The decor is absolutely adorable, romantic, and serene. The service was amazing with the lady not skipping a beat on checking in with us, refilling drinks, and even throwing some suggestions around. The food is the real star here. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I had the whitefish bento box and that has to be one of the better values in lunch, and the fish was incredibly tender and tasty. The lunch specials were great. This is one that I will definitely be back to.
Originally the name kept me from going to Mike's Sushi. Once we had exhausted everything else in the area we finally gave it a try after seeing the stellar reviews. Over 8 years later, I have to stop by Mike's if I am in the area. Everything on the menu is fantastic, absolutely the best sushi around. The best kept secret in the bay. Don't make the same mistake I did, go soon and often to Mike's Sushi for authentic Japanese food.
I've driven by this restaurant I'm sure hundreds of times in my 10 years living in the area. Restaurant is not visibly noticeable as it not out front directly on main road but recessed in in shopping center that has several small businesses. There is a large chain Italian Restaurant that takes the driver's eyesight immediately. This is not a super fancy joint, very modest and not huge in size. Staff is very friendly. They have a decent size selection of sushi/sashimi and of course, complimented with some fancier rolls. We tried 5 different rolls here and I can honestly write that I wished I had pushed myself years ago to seek out this place. The rolls certainly satisfied my cravings. We had their Una Kye roll (eel and cucumber), Tampa roll (fried fish), Mexican roll (fried shrimp with avocado and smelt roe), Crazy roll with spicy tuna, avocado and smelt roe and a spicy Salmon roll with scallion and cucumber. All the rolls were good so much so that I'm looking forward to trying them again very soon. I'd like to try their lunch specials.
Have been wanting to try for a while and really glad we finally did, very pleasantly surprised. We got the lobster crab rangoon and veggie tempura to start off with. The rangoon were stuffed full with meat and delicious. The veggie tempura had a nice, crispy, light coating that wasn't greasy or overbearing, my only critique of it would be that I would have liked a little more variety in the vegetables, had mostly root vegetables. We got 6 rolls of sushi which we were surprised came with a sushi boat, not sure I could remember all of their names but the happy tuna and the krispy krab were our favorite. The volcano roll, which is usually our go-to favorite was a little underwhelming and not what we're used to, every place seems to prepare volcano rolls differently. Would probably try the Mike's special volcano roll next time to see if that's more like the volcano rolls we've liked in the past at other places. The atmosphere was nice, it's small without a ton of seating but they do have tables that are almost inside their own little cave, was very cozy. You can tell the decor is a little older, but the whole place was clean and free from any bad fish smell. The staff was super nice and attentive, they were constantly moving and taking turns filling up all the tables drinks. They got busy towards the end of our meal with pickup orders but it all seemed very well organized (we happened to be sitting right next to the register) and they still checked on their tables frequently. Very very happy with this place, definitely plan on coming back or getting delivery.
We stopped in last night to pick up a to-go order and the employees were great! They were friendly and courteous to our needs and the other patrons in the restaurant as well! You could just feel the positive vibe and for the meal I ordered two sushi rolls which both were fresh and delicious! Couldn't have asked them to do a better job so once again thank you and we will be back soon
One of the great Sushi Houses for sure, but they are losing their edge. I order from Mike's Sushi almost every week and their quality & taste has been varying a lot in the past several months. Sometimes the sushi has a very strong smell or fishy taste, or the dishes are being made in different ways and doesn't taste like it should. I do understand variations happen, but I do hope they can start bringing their "A Game" again before I am resigned to look somewhere else.
This place is amazing!! I got the Sushi lunch box and it was the best lunch I've had in a while. I didn't want it to end, I enjoyed it so much. The sushi is so fresh and it just melts in your mouth !! Definitely coming back!! And their Miso soup is impressive as well!!
I went here with my wife and mother and the three of us couldn't have been happier. We had a wonderful waitress who helped with recommendations for a couple rolls we really enjoyed and a desert we absolutely loved. I will definitely be bringing my family back in the future.
I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. It was 11.95 and was your typical bento box. However, the California roll was very fresh. The sauces (eel and spicy mayo) we're over the top. I would literally come back to eat here just to get the sauce. They weren't your typical sauces, and tasted and looked homemade. They didn't appear to come from a jar, nor did they taste like it.It's definitely a good sushi spot as it was busy the whole time.
Mike's Sushi is the best! The service is wonderful, the food is amazing. The bento lunch boxes are SO good and such a great deal. LOVE Mike's Sushi!
