I was very impressed by the post COVID change they gave to one of my favorite restaurants. The cashiers and waitresses disappeared, now everything is digital and the only people there are those who cook and the counter. The atmosphere of a typical American restaurant has disappeared. They are now next to Mcdonalds and Wendy's. I'm gonna miss the old Steak & Shake
Despite me having problems with my mobile app and looking completely lost in the waiting line, the staff was so nice and accommodating and I had a wonderful time. I will definitely be going back in the future!
I liked Steak n Shake the way it was, before the Chicom-19 pandemic. It’s like McDonalds now.This Steak n Shake was closed, then reopened as carry out long after others were back to dine-in. Business is a fraction of what it was, they still force employees to wear masks and it is largely self-serve.The food is the same, but more expensive and service is nil. I could tell that the few employees were struggling. What a pity; former great chain going down the (drain).
Wasn't terribly busy and still took over a half hour to get food. Order numbers were also being confused as more than one kiosk was out of receipt paper, your order number only appeard for a few seconds, and the kiosk asking for your name isn't recorded in the slightest, so there was no other way to track several orders while I was there. Whoever was on the grill was certainly not to blame as from where I was sitting, I could see them moving fairly quickly in getting everything cooked and ready to go.
No wait staff. Order at kiosk, sit and wait for number to be called. one lady, very nice cleaning tables. She brought our order. Food Excellent!
Food was good, staff was polite and helpful (if you engage them), milkshakes were WONDERFUL!Only downside is the self-serve style of dining, may sound old fashioned but a big part of the dinning out experience is the server/ staff interaction.After all, they are the brand ambassador. Just look at all the Steak N Shake marketing plastered on the building, it's all with customer/ staff interaction.Not like fast food places, only displaying food.

Got it to go and food was hot when got home and double steak burger and french fries was awesome and the onion rings were excellent and it hit spot for lunch and for dinner and steak and shake it good any time of day or at night. And the Manager, she always nice to me all time when I come in there all time and the help to. And they really go out of the way make sure you have everything to go

The food is great. The amount of food is great also. I almost couldn't finish it. I gave it 4 stars because the wait was longer than normal when me and my families order was next. I understand that other orders need to be prepared alongside the dine in orders. The wait time was about 15 minutes to get our food. We were already on our 2nd round of drinks before the food came out. I would still go here because they always work hard. All the orders were correct, hot and fresh. Thank you to them for the service they give.
