Pleasantly surprised! My friend wanted to have lunch at Rice and Beans. We went to the location off East Colonial close to downtown. It was so adorable!!! This was my first time eating at the restaurant. All I can say is, “Wow.” The food was beyond delicious and served with a loving portion. To be a restaurant chain, the food authenticity was not watered down. Kudos!
I never got around to reviewing this place years ago when I should have, but all I have to say is, BEWARE! After eating whatever basic chicken, beans and rice plate I ordered for lunch while I was at work, about four hours later I started throwing up repeatedly (obviously, I had to go home, which was 45 minutes away--and I had to pull over 4 times to throw up more) and also started having diarrhea later on. I've never had food poisoning before that or since then, and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. The food did have a slightly off taste, but I chose to ignore it because I was hungry and never got sick from eating anything before. I didn't eat anything before that meal, either. I had a term paper due the next day for a class so I ended up having to have my friend take me to the HOSPITAL so they could put an IV in me and rehydrate me. I never went back after that!
I used to be a regular customer, but 3–4 years ago, the food used to be amazing. I used to come here 3 times a week and get 12 chicken and cheese empanadas, stew chicken and yellow rice, and tiramisu cake. But quality has gone down so badly. I don't know if the cook retired or what, but they don't make the tiramisu anymore or the chicken and cheese empanadas together, and the food always tastes old. It really stinks because this was my go-to spot.
To start off the restaurant is very clean and the staff is friendly. It's similar to a lechonera where food is out and you chose what you want. Unless you order mofongo or the house special which is done in the back. The mofongo is not the best its decent, meaning it's edible but I can do without it. (They don't have mojo de ajo)The best mofongo I've had to date is panaderia y restaurant el cafetal. The vinigarette steak is awesome. The meat for the roast pork is not juicy. The chicken soup is really good. ??
Went to get carry out today at 5:25pm and the girls behind the counter were quoting me prices for the food as If I could not afford it. What they should worry about is serving hot food as the food they charged me for was old and cold on top of that. If I could give 0 stars I would! 11/3/2021
Amazing food! Tuesdays deal is the best deal there is.
Service sucked, and food was pricey for what it was. Rice and beans had no flavor, just disappointed.
Simply delicious! the food is fresh and authentic
When in to grab a bite to eat of just beans and a drink. They lady stated they didn’t sell small containers of just beans that it would be cheaper to get the plate with two sides so I agreed. I received the food in the pictures listed below and a one size passion fruit drink for $14.80. I mean seriously a bowl of beans and juice would have been more expensive …how?? The meat was tender and juicy yet the beans and yuca. Ended salt. I was better off at Pollo Tropical.
The mofongo was great. I could've eaten the sauce by itself ? wish they would have given more in my to go order. Great prices! Love this place so much. Very authentic food.
