Being from NJ, the Diner Capitol of the world, Mel's is perfect! Everything cooked to order, service was great, food tasty...cooked to perfection. And if you're so inclined, a full bar.
Great price and excellent selection. Food was ok, great for the price. Service was not good. But that is common now days. Mel's was much better a few years ago. Worth eating here because of price and selection, but wouldn't go out of way.
We went there for dinner last Wednesday around 5:30pm. They were already out of the special, stuffed peppers, and the Wednesday special, stuffed cabbage. We ordered a dessert, lemon meringue....and they were sold out on that too.
We were a party of 20 and the good and service were excellent!
Tried the biscuits and gravy and a couple of other dishes (veggie omelet and eggs platter). The biscuits and gravy were bland at best and the fruit was horrid. The bacon was done very well, but overall, the food was of poor quality. Any Dennys would give a better breakfast. The restaurant is in poor condition and needs a good cleaning. Overall, a miss….
I honestly have to say go there. Open menu and you feel the past. Prices are amazing. I got turkey club with fries, Cole slaw, pickle and soda $14.32 including tax. Real turkey and Huge. Took half home. Excellent service. Don't pass this place up.
Wanted to like this place but couldn’t.Ordered the 11 oz prime rib (up charge from the $15.99). The menu stated 17 spices used. The meat was tasteless. I ordered Crispy fries ($2 upcharge) to go with that dinner, they had a rank smell and aftertaste and were not crispy at all. Never had ordered fries I couldn’t eat. I could only eat the salad.Key lime grouper was bland, not a hint of lime in a white sauce. Vegetable mix was overcooked and tasted canned.Very dissatisfied. Overall, a bad meal.
I heard this was a favorite spot. It got 4 stars because we waited over 1 1/2 to get seated. It was a Friday night but they had set up for a large party that either came late or they set it up too early so they were limited in big tables. The wait was longer then expected since they told us 20 min. I would have expected that since all other partied were seated with in 20 min that after waiting over an hour they may have given a completely appetizer or desert. We ordered the all you can eat fish but when we ordered the 2nd serving it was another 20 min or more wait. So by the time it came out everyone was done with thier meals. So if you want 2nds order early. So our stay there was over 3 1/2 hours total. Luckily we were visiting family and were happy to visit.
Mediocre food and horrible service. My son ordered soup with his meal, never got it, asked for horseradish, never got it. I ordered a fish sandwich, I got a piece of frozen breaded fish on top of a slice of toast. I won’t go back.
