We have been here at least twice a month! We have never been disappointed. We've had the shrimp the clam strips and the fish at different times. All were good.! Best shrimp I've ever had in a restaurant . Good service , music you can talk over. Highly recommend.
When we got the bill, wife questioned why it was so expensive and I said, guess it was your 16.99 single little 3" round crab cake. Asked waitress, who couldnt even bother to refill my sweet tea about it and she said yes, they are expensive and "two are 30.00". We eat there often and love the food, but wife says, "NO MORE", IF THEY WANT TO RIP US OFF LIKE THAT". Tried to call them first before posting review but phone busy for last 60 minutes. Funny as online menu states one crab cake is much less than 16.99...
We have a place in Mt. Dora, and often visit the Whale's Tail. However, this year's visit was a bit less pleasing than in the past. Actually, we went there twice this year, in early March. Kind of think that ownership has changed since the pandemic, as we didn't recognize any of the staff. On our first visit, we ordered the shrimp dinner broiled in lemon and butter. Shrimp was a bit overdone compared to past visits, a little tough, but still good. On our second visit, (we were the only ones there) we ordered the duo, shrimp and scallops, broiled in lemon and butter -- however, we were served them fried. Upon telling the waitress, after waiting for some time to get her attention, she said she wasn't aware that we'd ordered broiled, and could put in another order if we'd like. We declined. When she brought us our bill, my wife had not touched her scallops. The waitress asked if we'd like a doggy bag. She never offered to adjust our bill, or make any compensation for her mistake. We only left a $4 tip, which hopefully was an insult, as we normally tip quite well. Will give them another try next year, hoping that the service and food will be as good as it has been in the past, as it was always high on our list of places to eat. We're praying that maybe this was one of their "off nights", and that all will return to normal!
My wife and I went there and ordered 4 to- go meals. They put our order to the rear and served everyone in house first. There was a comment made since we had broiled food we would have to wait. We will not be going back there. We spent well over a hundred dollars in there, but won’t make that mistake again.
Good crab cakes. Strip mall atmosphere. Ok to slightly above service. Sub standard alcohol selections.
Great luncheon specials. Tasty and fresh. Pleasant family-like atmosphere.
Fish is great, so are the onion rings, I had the early bird shrimp, fries and cole slaw with a fresh brewed unsweet ice tea... SO GOOD ! For the food adventure try the boiled soft shell blue crab sandwich, so soft you eat it shell and all ! For a big meal or just a snack the fish is waiting for you !
We love this restaurant. We eat there every time we are in Mt. Dora. My husband loves the clam strips. Says they are the best he has ever had. All of the food and service is great. They are closed on Sunday and Monday and they close early when opened.
My coworkers and I went there, they got the chicken strips and I got the Philly cheese steak sub. The chicken strips were tiny and crunchy with just a grease flavor and the sub slacked on the steak. Definitely won't be going back.
Fresh fish, cozy place.. portions seemed filling and staff was very polite. Nice to have a good place to get fish in Mt Dora!
