First off, you couldn’t have named this place more appropriately. Umami is literally the “sense of taste”, savoriness. And they live up to their name.A must if you’re traveling through Tampa. The atmosphere was elegant and relaxed, with a unique view from any seat in the house. The music sets the mood without being invasive on conversations. We had a baby in our party and the server and host were so kind and accommodating in helping his mom decide on a tasty meal for him. That said there’s options for people who are shy of raw.Our server, Dani, was super friendly, informative, and down to earth. She helped us navigate the menu with ease and aided us in making the best decisions for our individual meals. She had a great recommendation for a sushi roll when I asked: Perpetual Love. Spicy and exciting! Overall the staff were helpful, attentive, and spoke to us like friends. Truly made the experience!Which brings me to the food: excellent, absolutely excellent. Flavors were rich and comforting. I personally ordered a Rainbow Roll, seaweed salad, and yellowtail sashimi. I live in a landlocked state and can confidently express that raw fish here was superb!I highly recommend Umami to anyone who would like the sushi experience in Florida!
Let’s start with the bad and then work up to the good. This place is popular and there is usually a wait. The staff is plentiful, but service is not necessarily prompt. Since the space is tight and the staff numerous, it can be a very confusing environment. Even though the servers can seem to be a little confused at times, they are always kind and polite. On this most recent visit our server was overwhelmed, so the manager took over and served the table instead. As with every visit, the food was excellent, hot and fresh, and so delicious. One of our Party is vegan and loves this place for its many available options. Aside from multiple vegan options, the menu has a lot of variety, all without seeming cluttered, and is sure to have something for everyone. And while not all that important, the presentation of the food is really quite nice — a lot of art goes into it.
Great little spot in North Tampa! Sushi was really good. Fresh and flavorful. Sunshine roll and King Dragon rolls, delicious! Even the seaweed salad tasted very fresh.
Had the Sashimi for rating purposes. White tuna and yellowtail were great. Salmon was very good, tuna and snapper(?) were just ok. Your not likely to notice when put in a roll. The fried cheesecake was delicious but extremely hard to cut. Did not try the rolls yet, however, they did not have my two favorite or my favorite appetizer. Sashimi serving size is spot on, they have not cut back on size to save $$ like many other places. All in all, I do recommend Umami Sushi, I will bring the wife here sometime soon.

Have been here many times and have never been disappointed. Food is always amazing as well as the service. I understand certain times especially recently it can be hard to have a good amount of staff that you can count on, so some reviews may say they were not tended to often and service was bad, but patience is key as they are doing the best they can considering they are always super busy too. Love this place, especially the coconut shrimp roll!! Delicious :) can’t forget about the fried green tea ice cream!!!!!!
I would give Umami 5 stars if it didn't take so long to get our food. The food is really good, but to wait 30 minutes for appetizers and another 30-45 minutes for our sushi/main course is a bit much. It seemed like the to go orders took priority, where dine-in customers would spend more if they didn't have to wait for their orders
1st time here. Been wanting to try the place. Here goes. The calameri had a tad much breading. The ouysters same but they also did not taste fresh. After the second one I almost spit it out. Not what I am used to. Now the sushi was just fine with thick yellowtail slices. Smokey salmon delicious also. Waitress was more than exemplary coming back to check on everything often and very nice. Will we be back? Most likely but we know what not to order next time. Place was not very busy when we got there before 6pm but slowly started to fill up almost. Lots of carry out with delivery people often. Try it and see if you like it. We originally went to Sushi Alive but left there as it was a forty minute wait. No waiting here though.
I don’t remember this place being so badly serviced last time I was here. I was served appetizers without any prior knowledge they were out of their dipping sauce. So it was highly disappointing and could only use salty soy sauce… Let’s just say I wouldn’t have ordered fried shrimp if they had no sauce to go with it. Then our tempura sushi rolls were served cold. Just another disappointment… And took forever to get a refill on our drinks. I felt our server completely avoided us. This restaurant focuses more for their online orders than their dine in customers. And the bill was not cheap. So I would have expected better.
$50 worth of tasty sushi. Had horrible service on the phone. Value for money, what a ripoff! I don't mind paying for good sushi but the bad phone service was the cherry on the cake!
